    CSPAN analog still there?

I was about to point out the same thing. It isn’t ‘public’ in the sense it is funded by government it is a ‘public service,’ provided by the cable industry.

You do understand I am talking about you effecting NOW, 2020? correct?? No one but you cares about what happened in 1998, OK! And what difference does it make if they were scrambled then or not you didn’t know about it.

WB Affiliates on Ku-Band Satellite (1998)

I realize that you likely have some issues which might make it difficult for you to understand how your actions, regarding contacting programmers, will effect many other FTA users. I would ask that you please attempt to empathize and consider your actions contacting these people. When you do...

I think that our poster perhaps might suffer from some sort of issue. I am not positive, and I am not being rude, but now that I think about his behaviour,I believe he is either autistic or suffers from some sort of case of Asperger’s syndrome. In any case, I think it might be best to limit...

I think you are basically talking to the wall. He has a concept, an idea in his mind and that is the way that it was, period. Regardless of whether or not he was there. Even accepting answers from people that were there at the time seems to be beyond his comprehension, or he flat refuses to...

    cost of Ku-Band (1998)

All I usually saw was quite poor as well. I suppose it largely depended on the outside plant of a given system. How well it was or was not maintained. Cable TV never has ran by here, however, I have friends in town that subscribed back in the day, and the PQ was ALWAYS subpar. My TV antenna...

He has ideas in his head, and wants to believe what ever he has concocted is the way that it was. I am not sure why, but he refuses to listen to people that were actually ALIVE in 1998 and knew what was going on at the time. Sent from my iPad using SatelliteGuys

    cost of Ku-Band (1998)

By 1998, I think the only manufacturer left making receivers for subscription TVRO was General Instrument, 4DTV. I am pretty sure Uniden, Drake, HTS/Echosphere, and any of the others were done by then. You have to remember 1997-98 was the year Ergen came out with the $199 Dish Network system...

    Telstar 4 (Ku-Band) after Alphastar

Damn I wish I had time to worry about what station was on what bird for 5 minutes in 1998. Must be nice if that’s all you got to worry about!

Free US channels on FTA system

Where are you located? How far from the transmitter? Do you know if your affiliate is on UHF or VHF (VHF hi or low) some broadcasters have had to move back to VHF low (2-6) since the re-pack and many antennas they sell now aren’t VHF low.

That was one of the pacific time network feeds that Primestar used, you could get east and west coast networks. If you were in a ‘white area’ where you couldn’t get a grade B signal, you could subscribe. My grandmother had Primestar in the late 90’s and subscribed to the networks, both time...

    Alphastar satellite dishes after termination

I believe there might have been some PBS/State Network feeds in DCII on Ku. It has been going on 20 years since I messed with 4DTV. That being said, you seem to be missing the point, some feeds were going digital in 1998, but not ALL were using DigiCipher II, most were going MPEG-2, the 4DTV...

    Whatever Happened to Dee Ann?

That doesn’t surprise me... That being said, perhaps she’s moved on to Internet streaming. Since I’ve gotten FTTH, I hardly ever use a dish any more, FTA or DirecTV.

    Alphastar satellite dishes after termination

You couldn’t get ‘all’ services with a 4DTV. It was DigiCipher II only, not MPEG2. Furthermore, the DSR-920 could only decode certain streams of DigiCipher the 922 released later could decode some more, but not all. Then there was the fact that you had to be able to actually subscribe to the...

Echostar 23 soon to be on 72W*

Also, Echostar leases Nimiq 5 from Telesat. They do not own that bird. Perhaps they have received permission from the CRTC to place a bird at that location since it is a Canadian DBS slot.

NBC Affiliates on Ku-Band Satellite (1997)

I had C-Band since the early to mid 80’s. Didn’t add Ku band until, either 1998 or 1999, whenever those HITS feeds went on either G7 or G4, and you could subscribe to them on 4DTV. I remember that was how we first got LMN, and I believe that CBS Eye on People was on there, seems like Toon Disney...

I’ll make a statement regarding your ‘curiosity’ about, I assume TVRO in the 1990s. You seem to be under the impression that Ku-Band reception was what the average satellite user went after, nothing could be farther from the truth. I couldn’t guess a percentage, but very few installations had Ku...

    cost of Ku-Band (1998)

That didn’t matter. Evidently you’re not very familiar with TVRO. The HITS channels simply moved to a different bird. Galaxy 7 Ku I believe. Your C/Ku band dish was motorized, there was no ‘trying’ another satellite, you just moved your dish from satellite to satellite. You paid for the...
