I live a little west of LA. No problem with the Star Choice/Shaw signal from both their Sats. I did use installer who earlier set up my US Dish receiver because I did not to get on roof my self. But there was no problem. If you get 530 box you need 2 cables from roof to box.

I also have a 530 for 3 years without problems. I do use a UPS unit as well. Unfortunately I do not know enough about the units to offer any real help. But as suggested check your power source and down leads from the Dish.

I don't know if the Mailbox drop would work for a Canadian wanting to get Dish. I guess it would would be harder because Dish uses a lot of Spot Beams and that would affect the Sat foot print for viewing "local" stations, ConUS might not be a problem. I also don't about Canadian laws and regs...

I found a good installer here in L.A. who looked up the needed settings on the web and did a really nice job. I guess you just need to find someone who's willing to do the work. Iceberg - as always you're right it's not that hard, but I am too old and decrepit to get up on the roof.

While the 530 is not a "state of the art" PVR it does do the basic job okay. Certainly my Dish 622s and my TiVos (when I used TiVos) are/were much more advanced but they do not work with SC. As Lern4483 said "Its clunky and poorly designed but no issues".

Thank you Robbie for the info. After talking to another company it seems your/my current receiver is link to CanAm which means the receiver can not be "moved" without CanAm's approval e.g. SC customer numbers etc. Just hope they are going to be back up or give/sell us the SC customer numbers...

I have a 530 and I've feel the HD on Choice channels looks a little sharper than on Dish (VS) for Hockey games. But that's just my opinion.
