Gordon, The STi 71110 is a basic chipset designed for the consumer STB market. It does not support 4:2:2 profile. Based on the target market for this receiver, I highly doubt that a daughter board would be made available to add 4:2:2 support.

Stone1150, Are you writing the code? If you are not, don't apologize for an inconvenience caused by firmware not provided by you.... I am sure that firmware will be released in due time to correct operational issues. Usually the first factory release firmware on new STBs have rough edges....

The unit only tunes DVBS MPEG2, so it will not tune DirecTV and will only detect the Dish Network transponders using MPEG 2. Doesn't have a channel editor, so all updating will be by manual entry. In my humble opinion, don't be a guinea pig on this device.......

Is the receiver Screen Output set to 4:3, 4:3 (Letter Box) or 16:9? What aspect or resolution is the TV/Monitor set to? This sounds like a receiver / monitor aspect setting mismatch. You might try to change the setting matches between the two units and observe if it produces a more visually...
