Will you switch to Dish Network?

Well change me from "thinking about it" to "I'm getting it". I can't stand the poor quality of the analogue channels from my cable company, and the addition of the Voom channels on Dish seals it for me. I have an install next weekend with an 942. I'm looking forward to getting Gallery and...

The Deal From Dish for Voomers Not That Great

Sounds good! Can the SD DVRs "see" the HD channels, even if only at a 480i resolution? CDH.

Are those SD or HD DVRs? If the latter then you scored big!!! CDH.

The Deal From Dish for Voomers Not That Great

What a nice tone in your post! (See, I can be sarcastic too.) You're right I meant fewer HD as I hardly watch the SD channels. And as posted above I have almost no interest in sports (though I did like the HD soccer on WorldSport). And yes, I did get all the HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, Starz...

The Deal From Dish for Voomers Not That Great

Hi gutter, The "Everything" pack includes all premiums on top of everything in the 180 package. There is normally a $34 difference between the 180 pack and the Everything pack, so I guess the $58.99 comes from the $19.99 plus $34 plus a $5 rental fee for the box (or perhaps for the Voom...

The Deal From Dish for Voomers Not That Great

I concur. Not a great offer. I had a similar experience here, but I knew that some of my locals were on the 61.5 dish (as per the Dish website) and that I was eligible for a free upgrade. After checking the CSR waived the $100 fee. Installation would be $49.99, credited back on the first...

Message from The TiVo Team, its really official now.

Ummm... yes it will, though the recordings will only be in SD. I use a Tivo to record Voom right now, and though I'd like an HD DVR I am reasonably happy with the quality I get from the Tivo Series 2. CDH.

Post your wish list for surviving VOOM originals (max 10)

I'd agree with these, though I'd substitute WorldSport for LabHD. CDH.

Now that Voom is dying.. what will happen to UniversalHD, TNTHD, and ESPN2HD

If Dish Network would carry UHD I'd be there in a heartbeat with a 942 installation. I get all my locals over OTA, but am signing up for Charter cable at a cheap deal including an HD-DVR (but only 2 HD locals!). Charter in Upstate SC does include UHD and TNT-HD. CDH.

My Offers from DirecTV and Time Warner Cable

If you check in the D* forum on this site you'll find some people have been successfully getting service credits of $200 (or even $250, though I'm skeptical of that), and then buying the HR10-250 from Value Electronics for $850 (including shipping). That brings the effective price down to $650...

My Offers from DirecTV and Time Warner Cable

I had a thought... Perhaps what you were being offered a waiver of the monthly DVR fees and/or HD pack? (I believe the current D* offer is for 3 months of the HD pack and 3 months of the DVR monthly fee for new subscribers purchasing this unit. I'm not considering it because I don't want to...

My Offers from DirecTV and Time Warner Cable

It is, and if you can get it for free then more power to you! The best I have heard of is a $200 credit towards programming when purchasing an HD-Tivo. Combined with the Value Electronics offer this reduces the real price to $650, but that is still a long way from free. Please keep us...

My Offers from DirecTV and Time Warner Cable

I think you'll find the Samsung will be the HD receiver (not DVR) and the Hughes will be a DirecTivo (not HD). The HD-Tivo is also Hughes, but with a list price of almost $1,000 ($849 through the special deal at valueelectronics.com) it is -- as cracka said -- ex$pensive. The D* DVRs can...

To C. Dolan - Sell the voom customer list

I beg to differ. The other DBS companies don't appear to be trying to capture Voomers at all. There was no "deal" when I called DirecTV other than what was available for a regular new customer: you still have to pay $300 out of pocket for an HD receiver or $999 for the HD-Tivo. All...

****My rant against PQ on New Encoders****

Well, I was watching UniversalHD today and found many *fewer* incidents of blocking than usual. For example there is a promo they play frequently each hour that has an explosion of flames. It used to dissolve into a screen of squares: no longer! Looks pretty good to me, but what do I...

Voom Needs to Update Channels on Voom.com

Hi Sean, Thanks for the list. However, the list you have on that page includes InHD 1 and 2 at 281 and 282. Am I seeing things? The link for more info points to posts from November 2003, which is obviously long out-of-date. I'm assuming this is an error. CDH.

Sorry things didn't work out for you. Luckily I'm one of the many who had a smooth installation and have not had subsequent problems. Best wishes, CDH.

Poll request - importance of RSNs

Ditto. Well, except maybe Tour de France, America's Cup, downhill ski racing, and the occasional soccer match. Ain't gonna find any of that on a RSN. CDH.

Poll: Do You Supplement Your Voom Service?

Va Va Voom and OTA (all channels in my DMA are available OTA digital), plus $13/month for TiVo. Would gladly pay $15-20/month for a Voom HD DVR box instead of $13 for SD TiVo plus $5 for Voom STB. CDH.

    Universal Remote

Yes, like many others who hang out on this forum I have a Harmony 688 remote. Yes it is expensive, but it enabled me to go from six different remote controls down to one. If you take the time to configure it properly (which for me meant altering quite a few of the default settings for response...
