Could ESPN2-HD be part of the deal?

screw espn2hd. there's hardly any hd sport on espnhd as it is! heck I watch more sports on tnthd (nba)

New Pricing options please! Stop the madness

so v* thinks that people won't sub to VVV for HBO, Cinemax, Starz, Sho, but wealthTV and endless reruns of "best luxury yatchs" is what going to reel people in? I don't think even v* is THAT stupid. they're just doing it this way now b/c they don't have the system in place for doing more...

****My rant against PQ on New Encoders****

Sorry but mpeg2 is mpeg2. there's no magic encoder that lets you squeeze in a bunch more channels w/o degradation. considering the pq was not top notch to begin with (mosquito anyone?), they didn't have a lot of room to play around. now they look like kirstie alley in her fat actress show...

Time to take action on TNTHD

Hey I wish all SD looked as good as TNT's upconvert (minus the anamorphic stretch). What TNT needs to do is STOP LABELLING EVERYTHING AS HD!! You're not fooling anyone; you're just pissing people off!

    New channels look bad!

when I first moved from D* to V*, first thing that I noticed was the SD channels looked a quite a bit better (aside from some weird artifacts on some channels). HD was harder to tell, since the content wasn't the same. But now the new recently added SD channels aren't looking good at all...

    70 HD Channels????

by the same token, d* could claim they have 1500HD b/c they have a sat ready for launch. by the same token, Verizon could claim they have HDTV service b/c they laid down some fiber. but that's all b.s. isn't it? we were led to believe v* would have the capacity for 70HD AND the...

    It's over for me

ltcsys: if I could get all that from my cable co., I'd be out of here too. but why would you pay $50+ for 1 1/2 year when you've watched only 3 hrs of voom's programming? hmm.

Cable Seems The Option for Me

ddlsmith: you're lucky. I have adelphia. To get just (awful looking) basic cable and a 80g dvr to record locals will cost me $65+ a month. and that's w/o any premium or their hd pkg consisting of espnhd and, um, that's it! it's ludicrous.

VOOM ........ Revamp your marketing scheme.

Voom is about a year late and a DVR short. We can talk til we're blue in the fingers but it's all academic now :(

    DVR dilemma

My cable co. here in SoCal is Adelphia, which blows. They have SHO, HBO, and ESPN. That is it. And of course you have to pay extra for each. Ridiculous. CSR says more channels -- discovery and "hd something" (hdnet, inhd, what? hello?) -- will come Q1. Be still my heart! BUT, they have...

free dvr in 3 rooms? wish I had comcast in my area :(

    VOOM sub numbers?

Explosive? I'm sorry but I seriously doubt there are thousands upon thousands of people out there just waiting to jump on a provider with firewire support? How many people even own a set with firewire? How many own a firewire recorder? We're talking about a tiny subset of an already small...

THIS is how Movies SHOULD look on VOOM

Not enough bandwidth. Everybody got all excited with the 70 channels announcement, but I groaned when I read that. Here we go again with the number game -- with a bunch of redundant PPV channels, no doubt -- instead of trying for the best PQ. How did they come up with 70 anyway? I bet...

Anyone else quiting when the new prices kick in?

It's always funny to hear some guy say "I spent $$$$ on ___ so what's another $$" and the guy gives no inkling that there are other people out there who don't have or don't want to spend that kind of money. (Yes, Virginia, there's a real world out there beside you.) Here's a question: if what...

    HGTV and the Food Network

Maybe it's b/c you're in a USDTV area. It's a service that provides a few basic cable channels, Food and HGTV among them, via digital OTA. You're somehow picking those up, but b/c the signal is encrypted, you only get audio. Reminds me of when I had analog cable and sometimes got audio from...

    HGTV and the Food Network

Need them for the ladies. And I enjoy Iron Chef myself.

Did they announce the New Year price increase yet?

and you base this on? we also know, btw, that D* filters most channels down to 1280x1080i
  22. B

    Will Voom Survive?

I don't think D* will buy it. They're launching their own, bigger and better satellite. They could buy the programming, but they have no bandwidth to carry it anyway for at least another year.

Did Voom damage or help the HD future?

I don't think Voom's had much impact on HD. Voom's hurt itself and US, the customers. That's right, US! Imagine if instead of 25K subs, they had 250K and growing. How different things would be? Would Cuban forget whatever beef he had with Cablevision and cough up HDnet? What about InHD...

Did Voom damage or help the HD future?

Voom has screwed up their execution so badly that I hope no competitor tries to draw conclusions about the HD market from Voom's experience.

    Will Voom Survive?

It's pretty simple: a company can lose money, or lose customers. It cannot lose both and survive on its own. There's nothing in Voom's plan that points to a dramatic turnaround. How long can they keep burning cash on a subscriber base that isn't growing? A buyout looks like the most...
