It's not really a loss, it's just part of the cost of having the service. You should always take stuff like this into consideration before choosing to buy equipment. Maybe the STB owners will get lucky and voOm will leave OTA tunning activated, so owners will get a OTA tuner out of it.

Are most people using DVI with voOm? Personally I found that my DVI is more prone to pixelation, and sharpness and color seems much better with component video on my TV.

Exactly, and as far as I know anything that is higher than SD (480p) is technically and legally considered to be HD by the FCC whether any of us like it or not.
