    Upgrading H/T

Another update, my BIL passed this past week after a tough battle with cancer and we just got back early this morning from the funeral. He was a great guy and went way too soon, he was only 65. It is going to take a while to get back to a normal routine around here, my wife has taken it very...

    multi fiber optic input

Yes, almost everything is now HDMI, even for audio. There are some higher end receivers that will include coax inputs for audio, as that is superior to toslink but almost all the newer stuff is getting rid of the legacy inputs, not only for audio but also for video and just doing HDMI.

    hdmi cables

The price. Don't fall for the expensive HDMI cable voodoo. Get some well made cables from Mono Price http://www.monoprice.com/category?c_id=102&cp_id=10255 , or Blue Jeans Cable http://www.bluejeanscable.com/store/hdmi-cables/hdmi-cable.htm They will perform just as well as the high priced...

    Acoustical Treatment

You are on the right path but the shape of that room will make it impossible to really make it sound good. You have so many killers in that room, like the huge open area to the right and the big open doorway to the left. The sound traps will really help, just don't expect miracles from the...

Confused about TV to amplifier setup

With that setup you are never going to get it to do what you want. I would recommend getting a newer H/T receiver that will do HDMI. You can get one very cheaply if you watch the sales, factory refurbs and open box stuff. Then you can hook everything to the Reciever and connect that to your TV.

How Long Have you Had HD?

I well remember those days. I also remember the early days when they were all transmitting on low power during the initial testing. It was very hard to get a good signal.

As recommended stay with HDMI. Toslink has restricted bandwidth and isn't really good for much of anything.

How Long Have you Had HD?

July of 2001, when I finished my H/T and was able to start using it. Dish Network was the source through a JVC DILA projector and an Panamorfic lens to convert the 4:3 projector into a 16:9 image.

    HDMI cable length

You can run about 200 ft with a good signal restorer but they aren't cheap. http://samtechonline.com/spelsohdexwi.html I don't know if you could stretch it to 300 or not. Give Spectrun http://www.spectrumelectronicsolutions.com/ a call and see what they say.

Please post your home theater pictures here

Thanks, it's a 135 inch Stewart Ultimate 4 way screen. When I built the room there wasn't that much wide screen material available, so I wanted to be able to mask off for 4:3. Now I never use the side panels, just the top and bottom masking. Earl
