    Incentive Auction Discussion

This is going to be great when everyone who has bought an antenna in the past 10 years suddenly can't get half their OTA channels anymore. It is difficult to even find an antenna built for anything but VHF-Hi and UHF.

WGN Parting ways with The CW

The Cubs are likely to be off WGN altogether in a few years. Their multiple TV deals will all expire after the 2019 season and all signs point to them creating their own network. WGN already lost the radio rights and I expect they won't be able to compete financially for the television rights...

Broadcasters Petition FCC for ATSC 3.0 Rollout

This may be a dumb question, but what makes a VHF-Hi antenna different than a full VHF antenna? So many of the antennas sold today are only listed as VHF-Hi, so would people who own those antennas be out of luck if networks end up moving from UHF to the low VHF spectrum?

Need help with a good indoor hi-vhf antenna

That is the same antenna I'm using in my attic to pull in CBS Chicago (WBBM) from over 50 miles away. It does what it is supposed to do and you can't beat the price.

What causes OTA channels to appear on the incorrect channel number?

Can anyone explain why some of the channels on my old TV's OTA tuner appear on the incorrect channel number? For example, WFLD Chicago should be on channel 32.1, but my old TV shows it on 31.1 instead. All my other OTA devices in the house have it correctly on 32.1. There are several other...

    Improving daytime reception?

What I ended up doing was running the Digitenna antenna through a pair of FM traps, then to the pre-amp, then to a UHF/VHF combiner where I combine it with the NON-amplified VHF antenna. From there, I connected a cable from my attic that runs down to my basement and connects to a grounding...

    Improving daytime reception?

The FM Fool report is below. I received the MCM FM Trap this morning and it has stabilized some of the signal readings, but not others. For example, 7-1 bounces between 80-100 without the trap, but maintains a solid 100 with it. 50-1 on the other hand, doesn't change at all with the trap and...

    Improving daytime reception?

Awesome, thank you! I actually have a Farm & Fleet store a few miles from my house and I just checked their website to find that they have 2 of these in stock. I 1-day shipped an FM trap from Amazon, so I'll try that first tomorrow and if it doesn't work then I'll make a trip to Farm & Fleet in...

    Improving daytime reception?

It is aftermarket (but also from Digitenna) and mast-mounted, with only 1 antenna input. I think the next thing I'm going to try is an FM trap on the VHF antenna output, and if that fails then maybe try a different pre-amp (Winegard LNA-200 perhaps?).

    Improving daytime reception?

Ok, so without moving the antenna, I simply unplugged the VHF antenna from the "LO" input of the combiner and the signal immediately stabilized. No more bouncing back and forth, but of course now I also lose WBBM. I guess the next thing to try is to combine a non-amplified VHF signal from the...

    Improving daytime reception?

No impact on the re-scan. It does pick up 50-1, but just gives me a black screen with weak signal. 51-3 just redirects to the next closest channel, which is 50-4. I didn't want to mess with the antennas anymore, but I think I'm going to take the new one down temporarily to see what happens.

    Improving daytime reception?

I just find it odd that one TV is unable to even get a lock on a channel that the Hopper has no problem with, and looking at the TV Fool report I don't see any reason why there would be a problem with that channel. For example, 50-1. This is one of the channels that is bouncing between 80-100...

    Improving daytime reception?

Closer than that. I was working in somewhat tight quarters in my attic. There is probably only a foot between some of the elements on the two antennas.

    Improving daytime reception?

I received the UVSJ combiner today and connected everything. All channels are working on my Dish Hopper with signal strengths anywhere between 75-100. The only thing I did notice was that I think I have some multi-path interference, possibly due to the 2 antennas being close together? I see...

    Improving daytime reception?

The unfortunate part of the whole thing is that my original antenna was professionally installed and I made it clear at the time that I hoped to get WBBM. The installer told me the only way I would be able to get it would be to put the antenna on my roof, which I didn't want to do, so I decided...

    Improving daytime reception?

Even better, I have been getting between 80-100 signal strength this evening. I never would have thought that a $20 antenna could be the answer to my problem, but it sure seems to be doing the trick.

I could be wrong, but I think it is right around 60, maybe even upper 50's (with heavy pixelation).

    Improving daytime reception?

I have some good news to report back. I received the $20 VHF antenna from MCM today and attached it to a mast in my attic, just a few feet away from my existing combo antenna. I lined it up and pointed it the same direction as my existing antenna, then disconnected the other antenna and...

    Improving daytime reception?

When mounting the 2nd antenna, do I need to position it in a certain location relative to my other antenna? I don't think I have room to go directly above or below, so is it OK to put them side-by-side, or even staggered, where the new one is slightly ahead or behind the other? I need to work...

    Improving daytime reception?

Ok, thank you for the info. I ordered the antenna you recommended along with a Pico Macom combiner and will give that a shot. At only $20 for the antenna, it's worth a try at least. I couldn't find any instructions for installing this particular antenna. Will I just need to connect it to the...

    Improving daytime reception?

I am located 50 miles from the Chicago OTA towers and I am able to get all the UHF stations without issue using my Digitenna DUV-XF (with preamp) in the attic of my two-story house. The only problematic station is CBS, which is VHF, and it appears that I am right on the fringe of getting it...
