    Internet OTA Tablo

Since when has the Tablo offered recording of streaming content from Amazon?

WeatherNation is far from being an OTA network.

    Homemade OTA antenna

Pluto TV doesn't count because it isn't broadcast OTA. Of course neither is a Wi-fi connection between two highly directional antennas. Waaaaaay out in the weeds.

    Old broadcast towers

Huh? I was under the impression that antennas were tuned by physically changing their length (because loading isn't efficient). Since some of the new setups are requiring arrays (especially in densely populated areas) where the coverage area needs to be "shaped".

    Old broadcast towers

That depends uniquely on what the frequencies will be for the new stations. I'm told that they will be the same post-repack DTV frequencies that we're looking at now and they'll create new stations to lighthouse the DTV channels (packed very, very tightly). If your antenna works post-repack...

I'm not sure what you're asking.

    Old broadcast towers

The range of channels that an antenna can be tuned to generally isn't that large and with the frequencies taking big hops in wavelength, there's not much use for a lot of the old higher frequency ones.

The Official SatelliteGuys TV Repack Topic

Why would they want to muddy the waters? I would explain it to individuals that had tuners that weren't MPEG4 capable and leave it at that.

NextGen ATSC 3.0 4K OTA TV is Now Closer to Reality After Successful ARK Multicasting Testing

While they can't do the interactive stuff without some effort, it seems to me that they could easily re-broadcast the content as they do now with DTV. The only difference would be that they would need to have Next Gen capable tuners feeding their multiplexers. They should be able to convert...

NBC to create OTA/streaming news subchannel for younger audiences

Who would sponsor it? Nothing makes it onto free OTA unless someone sponsors it. There are also some technical questions including how to handle closed captioning.

NBC to create OTA/streaming news subchannel for younger audiences

The feed is only live 8 hours per day. Who is going to sponsor it?

NBC to create OTA/streaming news subchannel for younger audiences

Somebody has to pay for anything that is "free". Too much news is bad for your health.

    Homemade OTA antenna

That's a very loaded statement. "Properly designed" visits many different disciplines from antenna and structural design all the way to what happens when you mix dissimilar metals. Any antenna that doesn't address most of the disciplines may be doomed to failure.

    Dabl

A station near me, KPXG (Ion/Telemundo) that has one 720p and six SD (perhaps a bit less payload than 12 SD) and the SD channels all look worse than DIRECTV's worst SD (think VHS color and detail absent most of the analog artifacts). There are several distinct levels of crappy. There are also...

    Repack troubles

I'm not sure that follows in all cases. With the repack increasing channel sharing, something changing in a nearby market could impact one's own market. Since Comptech is using a fringe antenna, it would seem even more likely that one station may be treading on another (hence my comment about...

Bayamon Puerto Rico OTA Antenna Question

Good data points but as I pointed out, just a few blocks one way or the other (from the pool to the ball diamond) can result in an entirely different picture. Maybe you can delete the duplicate posts?

Bayamon Puerto Rico OTA Antenna Question

You're welcome to feel indignant if you must, but Physics doesn't discriminate based on race, religion, political affiliation, age or financial position. There is nowhere in the entire state of Florida that is as high in elevation as your parents nearby Walgreen's so the terrain around you...

How do I use a satallite dish as a UHF antenna?

While not the specific one that I was thinking of (it had kind of a Death Star pattern of raised bumps), here are some other examples. I'm not sure what these are supposed to represent. It looks like they outfitted the dish with divining rods to make some sort of dipole.

How do I use a satallite dish as a UHF antenna?

Dishes have never been the reflector of choice for OTA TV but some think they look cool so they dummy something up. Radio Shack (and by extension, probably RCA) used to hide a UHF loop inside something that looked like a small plastic satellite dish on one of their indoor antennas. Other...

    Repack troubles

Which of my statements are you disputing? Are you saying that multipath from having a mish-mash of different antennas isn't an issue? Are you saying that small antennas can't be just right? Do you believe that signal quality is synonymous with signal strength or that they are somehow locked...
