Did OTA Channels Go Down Hill?

Do kids even watch TV these days? I figured it'd be mostly streaming these days, along with whatever else they might find on the internet. I remember stumbling onto porn sites in the days of dialup when looking for Simpsons fan sites. Free anatomy lessons just a click away!

    Recommendations for Indoor TV antenna

I had a home-built DB-4 antenna on the wall for an indoor antenna many moons ago. My roommate had a Japanes3-style fish flag/wind sock, so it looked like a fish heading toward a lure on the wall. As for recommendations, we'd need to know what channels you're aiming for. It'd be best if you...

Using a satellite dish to make a HD parabolic antenna? Worth it?

I tried a UHF bow tie combined with a 1M fiberglass dish. It did well enough as a directional antenna (got Springfield MA channels nicely in New Britain, CT) and got rid of enough noise from the PC/TV/consoles/modem/wifi mess. Here's the thread (though not as old as this one). Interference on...

    Local channel disputes

Depends. If you have a balcony or patio they legally can't tell you "no". It just has to be completely within the "area of exclusive use" (ie not hanging over your balcony or out into the common grass area). You just might need to get a flat coax to run through a window/doorway. Check the...

    Over the air... really?

People are a little more aware of it out here. Even at Walgreens we get a fair number of people buying the As Seen On TV junk antenna option, so I try to steer them to the cheaper rabbit ears. A fair number of people here live where cable isn't available, so it's dish(es), OTA, or nothing.

My new OTA DVR's on the cheap.

Cheap and it works? I like it. I have a small stack of hard drives collecting dust right now. One will be packed with MP3s for my car, but the rest...?

Awesome tropo locals coming in tonight

That's crazy! I'll never see anything like that here with all the buildings and mountains in the way. Heck, some of the locals within 20 miles are iffy sometimes... On a regular day, is the RCA ANT751R a pretty good performer? I've been considering it since it's a lot smaller than the...

KATZ and Bounce agree with Nexstar on multi deal launch

KATZ and Bounce agree with Nexstar on multi deal launch

I'd love to see a little more variety out here. I've never watched any of the channels listed.

Do I have a reason to complain?

I used to be in New Britain with an antenna aimed at Springfield for their PBS selection. Not a bad OTA location at all. But you could always add a dish or two or three...

What causes OTA channels to appear on the incorrect channel number?

That happened for a few days with WVIT in CT. I messaged then on facebook about their channels showing as 35 instead of 30 and they fixed it a few hours later.

    Cold weather reception question

I used to live in New Britain and that channel was sometimes difficult to get. I only remember it as an analog channel, which was watchable with a DB8 antenna.

Digital OTA TV Dongle for USA Reception on a Laptop

I bought one of theirs several years ago, the 950. I fried it and replaced it with a 950q maybe 3 years ago. Good little stick. My 2003-era Dell could decode the video, so pretty much any modern computer should be able to handle it. Only issue is that their drivers are pretty much Windows...

    Gone hiking

There's an anemometer next to the visitor's center across the street. I might ask next time we go hiking up there, or go right up to it (easily accessible) and see if I can see some manufacturer's marks and part numbers.

    Gone hiking

Now what the heck is this? Near the beginning of the CCC Trail, across the road from the Colorado National Monument visitor's center. I'm most curious about the thing that looks like a pizza dish with an oversized C-band feedhorn cover on it. It's not aimed at the antenna hill, but skyward...

Do stations not care that their signal looks worse the more sub channels that are added?

This was a terrible problem on ion in CT. ion, ion life, some third ion, qubo, and QVC all crammed in together.

    Antenna in attic.....OTARD no help....HOA

I'm not a lawyer, but I say find out what the HOA "rules" are, install the antenna outdoors (maybe in the back yard or the side of the roof away from the road), and if anyone complains, tell them to petition the FCC. So long as you follow OTARD by installing it properly outdoors, and you can...

Could some channels be going to low VHF after the signal auction?

We have one vhf low and one vhf high here. Channel 2 is broadcast from the middle of the city so it's probably the most reliable channel. They're also on 2 uhf subchannels to cover the edges of the valley.

First it was "Clear TV"...now "HD Clear Vision Antenna"

My store (Walgreens 9769) actually dropped the cleartv. We were selling them pretty well, too. I'll have to tell people to just get the rabbit ears instead.

    Gone hiking

My wife and I hiked the Black Ridge trail at the Colorado National Monument last weekend. I see this hill every day, but it takes some effort to get to. 10.6 miles LOS according to TVFool, but it's a 20+ minute drive up the monument plus a bit of hiking on the trail. KFQX, KKCO, KRMJ, K22JN...

FCC Says you CAN put up that antenna - HoA can't stop you (FCC OTARD reference)

The annoyances followed me 2,100 miles. First the lady in the office went guano crazy when I DARED suggest that she was wrong. (She only worked there for a month or so.) Now, five months and two property managers later, I had a note on my door this morning, most likely left by the woman...

    Thrift store/Craigslist/Garage sale OTA finds?

The Goodwill has some decent finds around here. I almost grabbed a Tivo, but the computer's more than sufficient for my OTA DVR. Six-ish years ago I picked up a cheap RCA antenna at Ocean State Job Lot (a cheaper version of Big Lots) for $20 and it's serving me well here in western CO.

Stop Living Well and Laff, and Escape!

I had no idea Laff was coming to this neck of the woods (Hartford) until I saw a movie scheduled for the WFSB weather channel. I might be more inclined to tune in (but probably not).
