fios and the state of KentuckY?

I figure, with my luck, Verizon will probably go after Sprint or Qwest, but I'm still excited by the possibility... ~Alan

fios and the state of KentuckY?

Of course, with the purchase of Bellsouth by AT&T, rumors are abound as to what the next Telco purchase will be, and Alltel, Sprint, and Qwest have been mentioned as possible targets for Verizon. All I can say is, I will be VERY HAPPY if Verizon goes after Alltel... and might even do a few...

Warner Bros. and CBS creates a new network called CW

I'm kind of curious about that myself. While my market doesn't have a WB affiliate, it (sorta) has a UPN affiliate, but I can barely receive it. A neighboring market has a UPN affiliate carried on a sub-channel of their CBS affiliate's digital signal, but also a WB affiliate (whose...

    FCC Proposed Rules from SHVERA

Yeah, I posted the comments below on DBSTalk.com yesterday. My market (Albany, GA, DMA #147) has SIX stations (sorta!) in it. They are a NBC affiliate (WALB), a FOX affiliate (WFXL), two PBS channels that are repeaters of channel #8 out of Atlanta, a UPN affiliate (WVAG) that is licensed to...

Congress likely to pass HD distant locals today!

I got CBS E&W & CBS-HD E&W in August (I believe), so would I be grandfathered?! Also, I believe I got CBS-HD on a technicality, so I'm not sure if that would be considered "lawfully" or not... ~Alan

Congress likely to pass HD distant locals today!

I figure they will look at every account (no matter how much I wish they'd ignore mine), but RB can explain this to you better as I haven't been paying a lot of attention to what happens when you already have locals (as DirecTV doesn't carry mine yet). ~Alan

Congress likely to pass HD distant locals today!

You'd be able to get CBS-HD East because the CBS is O&O, but SD distants do not work the same way. You might also be eligible for NBC-HD East, but not NBC East in SD. ~Alan

Congress likely to pass HD distant locals today!

Since it looked like "Significantly Viewed" was going to happen for months now, Dish and DirecTV might already have laid out the information on what they can and can't broadcast as "Significantly Viewed", but I agree that it will take a while before they update their CSRs and computers. It...

Congress likely to pass HD distant locals today!

I live within "Grade A" coverage of an NBC and FOX, and within "Grade B" coverage area of an NBC and FOX as well. I also live within "Grade B" coverage area of two CBS affiliates and two ABC affiliates. The only networks that I do not fall under at least a "Grade B" signal is the WB! and (I...

Congress likely to pass HD distant locals today!

Does that mean if you live outside a "Grade-B" signal, or if you're outside the "Grade-A" signal?! I get CBS-HD E&W now, if DirecTV had ABC-HD E&W, I'd have them too. Does that mean that once the waivers are resubmitted (after the bill is signed into law), that even if I lose CBS, I'd still...

Congress likely to pass HD distant locals today!

I had asked that question before on DBSForums.com back when I didn't have access to a CBS, and was wondering if I could get access to WCTV (a "significantly viewed" CBS affiliate from the Tallahassee, FL market available on both Dish Network and DirecTV). Since then, I've gotten CBS E&W and...

Congress likely to pass HD distant locals today!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that you have to subscribe to your own locals before you can get any "significantly viewed" stations. ~Alan

Congress likely to pass HD distant locals today!

I thought I had read at one time how the FCC could make a seperate "significantly viewed" list for satellite users... I guess that's one of my only hopes in getting a WB! station... ~Alan<~~~~~~~~~Who misses getting WB! programming on WGN on DirecTV!!!

Congress likely to pass HD distant locals today!

According to the bill (at least what I understood of it, if I'm wrong, please correct me), satellite companies have the opportunity to offer stations deemed "significantly viewed" on your cable system. If your local cable system offers a certain station, your satellite company should also be...

Congress likely to pass HD distant locals today!

Yes, however, that only helps DirecTV market a UPN or WB! in a market where there is a UPN or WB! affiliate that is considered "significantly viewed". While that might be so in some markets, my market already has a UPN affiliate (sorta) and a cable-only WB! affiliate. The state of Georgia only...

Congress likely to pass HD distant locals today!

FOX HD East & West being turned off had nothing to do with this bill. There were some people who said that it was taken off due to a dispute with Dish Network, and there were some people who said it was a dispute between FOX and DirecTV. There is nothing in the bill (that I read) that would...

Congress likely to pass HD distant locals today!

I didn't read the article itself, I got abour four hours sleep last night, and I just figured I'd wait until the actual bill was done and could be analyzed. However, how stupid of DirecTV or Dish Network to offer consumers (say, ABC in digital form, but not in HD)... they should save the space...

Congress likely to pass HD distant locals today!

Wait a minute, are you telling me that if you have analog LIL, you will be able to get HD distants even if you can receive a network's affiliate DT signal OTA?! That sounds fishy to me... Hopefully this would at least get ABC-HD up on DirecTV faster!! ~Alan

Committee Passes Satellite Home Viewer Extension Act

And if that's the case, I think the point is rather "moot" also, and would rather the "significantly viewed" clause were to go into effect than this, which in the end probably won't do a dang thing! ~Alan

Committee Passes Satellite Home Viewer Extension Act

I'm not very good at reading these bills, and they look like only a lawyer could understand them, but from what the bill said, it seemed to me that after on January 1, 2005, if you don't live in the city that the stationed is licensed to, then you will be given access to said digital channels...
