    U.S. And Russian Satellites Collide

GPS satellites are NOT in geo orbits. They're swinging at various angles at around 20,200km (12,600 miles). About half way to the Clarke belt. FWIW.

    How to test LNBs?

Anyone have some ideas on bench testing LNBs? I've got a box of various LNBs that were taken out of service. Sadly, most have no note or anything indicating what was wrong. I really don't have the time to mount on a dish, align to sat, and check out. I do have a spectrum analyzer that will...

Sat Finder Question for Professional Installers

I am a missionary with a Christian radio network. We have 15 radio stations, plus many affiliates we provide technical assistance to. We operate our own Spanish Christian Satellite network, Radio Cadena Manantial, presently on AMC3, Ku. We also have downlinks from a variety of other services...

Sat Finder Question for Professional Installers

Most of my satellite work is non-DBS, so I usually use a Bulz-I meter from Dawn Satellite. I don't know if they still make them or not. Plus I use an Avcomm PSA-37D spectrum analyzer. On the higher powered DBS stuff, I sometimes use a Birdog. The Birdog is nice, since it will identify the...

And you think monster cables are expensive?

So you pay >$500 for cable that you plug into a fifty cent RCA jack? Gimme a break. Those people have more dollars than sense. I am truly saddened by our society that has people stupid enough to fall for this junk. But I know there are plenty of them around. I just got an email from one who...

Post your backyard/Roof Antenna, Dish, Tower, C-Band, Ku-band Pictures!!

That would be the C band dish, now pointed at SatMex5. It has an old dual feedhorn on it. IIRC, at one time I had an adapter on the other hole for a Ku LNB, but it didn't work too well.

Post your backyard/Roof Antenna, Dish, Tower, C-Band, Ku-band Pictures!!

I finally got out and snapped some pix. I notice a bunch of other peoples pics either got lost or not showed up, so I hope I get these right. There is a string of 2.4 dishes, most Ku, I think one is still on C. Then there's the 3.0 and 3.2 C dishes with a 1.2 Ku dish in the middle up on the...

    mystery lnb

I seem to have acquired one of these LNBs, also. It has a very strange feedhorn on it. It is oval shaped instead of round and the outer edge is swept back on the sides, kind of like a wedge. I'm assuming this may be used with an oval dish or a dish that would try to pick up more than one sat...

    Help! I Can't Drill Straight!!

I typically mount a short piece of 2X8 to the wall and paint it to match the wall. If it is slightly out of plumb, it is hard to notice. Then, I lag screw the dish mount to the wood. Much easier to get a nice plumb installation. Michael

    Handymeter

How about other tools, like the Birdog, pico sat, sathawk, etc.?

    Handymeter

Has anyone used the Handymeter from Dawn satellite? It is supposed to give you a spectrum display, signal strength, read IDs from MPEG streams, power the LNB, and more. It's fairly large as handheld devices go, it looks about the size of a Fluke Scopemeter. I think it runs just under $2000...

Starting a TV Station... how to get it out?

There is one other option. Not technically broadcasting, and you must keep it completely non-commercial. That is ham radio. Hams can broadcast TV on a number of bands, one of the most popular being 432 mHz. Any one with a cable-ready TV set can pick it up if they hook to an antenna and tune...

RG6 Coax Connectors & Compression Tools

I use mostly the Thomas & Betts SnapNSeal connectors. Available for the various cable types, I get them for under 50 cents at http://www.mjsales.net. Good folks, fast service. I originally got the plastic IT1000 tool. Combined stripper and crimper. It works great, but I do a lot of RG-11...

Satellite installer tools of the trade.

For you Accutrak users, does the tone change volume or frequency respective to signal strength? I use a Bulz-I meter now. I can't detect the tone level changing on many cheap meters I have used (lousy hearing), but the Bulz-I changes frequency, the stronger the signal, the higher the tone...
