Glad it worked out. But for the record, nobody, not even Charter, broadcasts any channels in 1080p. Your TV is upconverting 480p, 720p or 1080i to 1080p. Supposedly, a new DVR interface is in the works, but it will probably be years from now, if it ever happens at all. Incidentally, my 60/4...

Direct TV no more. Charter and TiVo now my best deal

So sorry for the confusion. My response should have been directed at Pixl. He's the one with TiVo and the unconnected tuning adapter.

Direct TV no more. Charter and TiVo now my best deal

Jhon, as another poster said, that box you didn't connect is probably a tuning adapter. If you check every channel, you'll probably find some in your package that you can't tune. If those channels are important to you, you need to connect the tuning adapter. It's free anyway, so you have nothing...

Good. Thanks for asking. I dropped the computer DVR when Rovi took over. But now Rovi has also taken over Tivo, and I have the same old problems again. I can't win :oldfrown. In any case, it's just TV.

Going from 1080i to 1080p is not upscaling but simply de-interlacing. Whether the DVR does it or your TV or AVR does it, the result should be identical. I'm glad you're happy with Charter (I am too), but any picture quality differences you're seeing are due to other factors. If you came from...

Yeah, I've managed to keep my Silver discount a couple of times as well. But I'll probably just drop cable TV next time around. PS Vue + OTA has just about everything I've got now for a fraction of the price.

Smart move. Just watch out when your promo ends. Your price goes through the roof. TV goes to $60, Internet to $65, DVR to $12 + $7 per box = about $145. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Doesn't Bright House have a better lineup than Charter anyway? If I were you, I'd be grateful for the delay.

Hopefully it won't come to that anytime soon.

Sounds like Dish is the better deal in your case. In my market I get all my HD locals and local subchannels on Charter, no OTA required. My Charter package is also a lot less than an equivalent Dish package. Start adding fees for DVRs and other rooms, all told, I'm saving about $80/month with...

Penny wise, pound foolish. I'm guessing those 2 DVRs are costing at least $20 in fees. In 2 years, you'd break even. Plus with Mini's you don't have to mirror. Every TV could watch something different. It's certainly unpleasant to pay up front, but you save the most in the long run. But I can...

Charter Spectrum - Charter finally to look competitive?

I've been following the World Box for a while. My take is that some company sold them on the idea that they could put lipstick on a pig by essentially running web pages on all their old boxes to give them a modern interface. In practice, this hasn't really worked. The few field tests that were...

I'm probably somewhat overstating how bad Charter's DVR is. Compared to other cable systems, Dish, DirecTV and Tivo, you'll think you've time traveled back to the 70s. However, it is functional. It has a guide that Stevie Wonder could read from 40 feet away, it records what you tell it to...

True, you can't get On Demand on Charter from Tivo. But, like all On Demand, Charter's stinks. You're much better off streaming direct from the provider. I've never found anything worth watching on demand in the 10 years or so its been available. It's usually limited to a few episodes in SD and...

Charter Spectrum - Charter finally to look competitive?

Old news and more broken promises. It will never happen.

Charter has been promising one new box or another for years. No matter what they say, you'll never see a worldbox. That post is a year old and they have yet to roll it out anywhere. Their worldbox DVR doesn't even exist yet, only regular cable boxes are in a few test markets and working poorly...

Current Bolt ~$150 plus $12.50/month if paid annually, $15 if monthly. Lifetime on new units is ridiculously expensive now. I got my Roamios with lifetime for $300 a while back. Mini's are $70 on sale, $120 otherwise, never a monthly fee. Payback for me was about 18 months. Over the 5...

Another vote for Charter and Tivo here. Not only is the DVR experience close to Dish for a heck of a lot less money, you get a ton more HD channels and virtually no dispute related blackouts. One thing that you may not realize is that unlike satellite and cable company boxes, additional rooms...

From what I remember about Charter boxes, you can make a favorites list, but it is a pain to use since you have to drill into the menus to select it every time you open the guide. Tivo is much easier to deal with. As for the slowness, you'll have to define slow. On my system which works...

Go here to get your lineup: https://www.charter.com/browse/content/new-channel-lineup Maybe your market is different, but in most Charter markets, the HD channels are in the 700s and above except the movie channels which are mixed with SD in the 500s and 600s. None are 4:3, except pillar box...

Charter Spectrum - Charter finally to look competitive?

No. You must have a DVR or Tivo for that, or stream directly from the source. If you're looking for a cable/satellite type of experience, PS Vue is much better than Charter's streaming service. It does have trickplay for live TV and pretty complete on demand as well as a cloud DVR of sorts...

    new to charter

Listen to caam1. You are going to think you've traveled back in time to the 1970's when you fire up those Charter DVRs. So unless you're just into nostalgia (8-track, kinetiscopes, turntables, telegraphs, steam engines, those bicycles with the giant wheel in front, handlebar mustaches), ditch...

TiVo agrees to $1.1 billion acquisition by Rovi

Tough call. That would pay for itself in a little over a year and a half, considering DVR fees. So the question is how long will it take Rovi to destroy Tivo. I say at least a year, but could be sooner. If I were OTA only, I'd go for a ChannelMaster at this point.

Cox and the Cable Card A Journey in Frustration

Card needs a newer firmware to support more than 2 tuners. If card isn't taking the update or is not an M card (multi-stream), you should exchange for another.
