    Actually I think because the roof isn't your exclusive use area you'll have to relocate the dish. The building belongs to someone else and they can set rules about dish installations anywhere but your rental space ie. deck, patio, balcony.

    You can get a device called a clinometer, it has both azimuth and elevation readings on it. A decent one from Suunto runs around $125. If you go this route give yourself some extra room, about 5 degrees on all sides.

    What you can do is hook up your existing cable. Then check 119 transponders 11 and 12. They're strength should be within 5 units. If 12 is significantly lower you should change cable.
