Satellite and Problems with My Pre-Wired Home

Buy a cheap line tester, like this one: PVPT2 Pocket Coax Cable Tester Put the tester on the wall plate in one of your rooms and and test the other end out in the garage with the bell. If the bell does not make a sound, my guess is your house is not wired with home runs. Meaning, instead of...

tileing on fios , they want $75 to try to fix it !!

Could be the cabling in your house.... could be the Service line feeding your house.... but this can also be caused with FIOS if the system is not grounded correctly. My guess is that is what the "advanced support" technician will test. Installation techs typically just see a ground source...

Diplexer for cable modem and cable tv?

I know it's not the answer you're looking for... but if all else fails, order a Linksys WRT54GL. Not all WRTs are created the same... most versions have half the RAM of the 54GL.....I have owned many different routers made by all the manufacturers and this specific model is the best wireless...

Diplexer for cable modem and cable tv?

So you have two seperate drops coming into your service panel? If that is the case, you may be out of luck.... splitters work when both the TV and data signal is coming from the same service line (drop).... Diplexers will probablu not work as neither of the cable signals will be utilizing...

    RG-6 QUAD CABLE CONNECTOR INSTALLATION

That is what I meant.... I just call it a crimper as referring to it as a "Connector Compression Tool" every time I talk about it just sounds nerdy.

    RG-6 QUAD CABLE CONNECTOR INSTALLATION

Buy a coax stripper and a crimper.... the stripper does all the work for you... with quad shield you sometimes have to peel back the second layer of foil, as well as the braiding (the silver strands)....just pull it away from the stinger, and down.... you can push the fitting over it.... don't...

    new installation question

What kind of switch did you add to the system? Dish Switches require 1 line per Satellite you are trying to receive. Have you verified that you are getting all your programming? You made it sound like all you had was a dish, LNB and the receivers... if I knew you had a switch lying around...

Apartment - defining "exclusive" vs "common" use areas

You're going to have to contact the FCC no matter what obviously. If you put a Dish up, it sounds like they will either remove it, fine you and/or attempt to evict you.... Even if someone here could give you a definite Yes or No... it wouldn't matter. You would still end up having to contact...

A plasma over the fireplace question; sat related!

I chose not to do so because I didn't like looking up at my TV.... I stood it up there on the mantle for a few days to test it out and it really started to annoy me....even though it wasn't THAT much of an angle (modern fireplace, newer house, not a true mantle like the old days) I have seen...

Apartment - defining "exclusive" vs "common" use areas

You need to read what you signed. Here is the problem.... whether you can have a Dish or not depends on how they worded that contract. They are not allowed to tell people, either verbally or in writing that they can't have a satellite dish.... therefore any "contract" saying such, means...

    new installation question

Your LNB will not work. I am not familiar with the particular brand of LNB you mention, but I can tell you that it will not work for what you want because you said it only has 2 leads.... You need new equipment... sorry.

    Installing satellite for 14 TVs

I should have said the Audit Team, not Executive Resolution Team btw... but if you get the ERT, they will make sure you get in touch with the Audit Team anyway :P

    What type r6 to use

Any RG6 that was swept to 2.25ghz is fine...3ghz is better for future proofing.... Quad shield is totally unnecessary and mostly just marketing hype..... not to mention a pain to work with for most technicians. In fact, someone brought in a sample of some really expensive quad shielded RG-6...

    Installing satellite for 14 TVs

you could do this with 7 dual tuner receivers and 2 DPP 44 switches with dish network.... they allow 6 receivers per account before they make you start a seperate account (and double your programming fees)... however you also have to outright purchase any receiver(s) that would put you past 4...
