    my assumption was he would get the roku model with RCA outputs since it supports older tvs. the HDMI portion I discarded because as you say, it makes no sense to convert HDMI to composite then to RF once you figure in the needed adapters.

    you need an RF modulator to convert the RCA to RF coax connection. under 20.00 so not that expensive at all. you may even find one in a local electronics store, but it would be pure luck. Yes you would get a much better picture changing to a new hd tv, but I can understand not wanting to go...

    Is the Roku stick any good?

    We have a 1 and 3 of the sticks, the sticks are better IMO. the 1 won't do profiles on Netflix but the sticks do. Only drawback to them is I can't use my Logitech Harmony remote to control a stick since they are RF. But that is what the app is for on the ipad or phone.

    Roku and run a plex server, then it will play anything. but yes it will play MKV natively as well.

    I only have one LG BR, but every TV we own has a Roku so we never use the app on the BR anyway.

    I'm lucky that my home internet is a wireless tie in back to my office in town. So I have unlimited internet and don't have to worry about caps. The bad thing is my kids have gotten so used to Netflix and other streaming methods that when they go to my mom's house they make her hit her cap early...

    got a streaming stick tonight for the bedroom and yes it does support Netflix profiles! guess I will move it to the den and put the Roku1 in the bedroom so my 6 year quits messing up my suggestions! LOL

    from what i see on the Roku forums the Roku Streaming stick supports profiles as well.
