2 questions..gray bars and new channels

1. Can I change the gray bars to black? I read somewhere someone said there's a button on the remote to do that..but I didn't see one while I was in Monroe and now I'm not there so I would have to talk my parents through it remotely (no pun intended). What did I miss?

2. I 'locked' their system; eliminated TONS of junk from the listings (do we really need a dish channel every 10 channels touting PPV?) and blocking adult content. If DISH adds new HD or other programming..will those just show up in the program guide automatically or will they have to rescan or do something to tune in new HD or SD channels?

2. Standards will show up on "All Subscribe" (those that your programing package allows) and HD's on "All HD."

in other words, NO they will not show up. You will need to unlock, add the new channels, then relock. I know because I get rid of all the jesus freak and shopping and music and ... Then lock. I check here to find out about new channels and add them as I think they might be worth watching.

Actually, this depends on which receiver/receivers you have. The 622 locks out the channels you don't want, new channels will appear with no problem.
