Okay I had a thred further down the page and It got off topic.

I was looking to upgrade my Parents service for X-mas. I was first looking at doing a DVR upgrade for there 3900 receiver to a 508 or 501 But I can't find any reman or refurbished units. So plan "B" upgrade their 3900 to a dual tuner 322 receiver. They currently have a 3900 and either a 3000 or a 301 running off an old lnb legacy NON dish 500/superdish. Do i need to get a DP34 switch box to be able to run both tuners on a 322 and the second 3000/301 receiver? what else do i need?

I personally have a superdish/dish500 that runs a 942 and a 508 and I have the dp34 to split the siganl to both tuners in the 942. will that work with the above mentioned cenario?

The 322 dual tuner receiver will replace both Legacy receivers they are using now with 1 receiver. The second tuner is most commonly output on ch60 so there is only a remote control at the second location instead of a receiver.

Yes I know that That is how my system works. They have 4 tv's in their house I want to use a 322 and their other "second" receiver on the same satellite head on the house that is why I think I need the switch box on their system?

First rule of upgrading: make sure it is an upgrade.

Second rule of upgrading: don't hang on to Legacy or DP if you don't have to.

There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of point to "upgrading" your parents from SD to SD other than getting a new remote.

Sticking with Legacy or DP when you could use DPP is silly. DPP twin LNBs are pretty cheap.

Are these superdishes that we're dealing with here and are they really necessary?

As boba mentioned, the 322 will feed two TVs, but the modulated feed will have monaural audio.

Unless your folks are missing desirable features or channels, I'd recommend leaving their setup alone. If they really need a DVR badly, you might look into getting them a 942 with DVR advantage.

The reason for the dual receiver Idea is they have 2 tv's that they use all the time and right now they have to be watching the same caneel due to a single receiver. the other 2 tv's they rearely use but do from time to time. So the 2 tv's they use all the time can run off a dual receiver and watch different shows. the other 3000 or 301 receiver they can use for the 2 rarely used tv's. I really don't want to screw around with changing their dish out when it's 30 degrees outside on a warm day now... so that was the reason behind my though process Yes I know their equipment is outdated but it work for them and I don't want anything too fancy they don't have an HD tv either. rule of thumb K.I.S.S. keep it simple stupid.
