So, I'm watching tv in my bedroom when suddenly a extremely loud static starts emanating from my plasma. My wife runs out of the room screaming. The screen has gone to static. I turn off the TV. When I turn it back on and go into the menu settings they have been switched to a different language. Normally I would just say that the TV went bad, but when it happened I saw that the 510 was searching for the satellites. The only input on my plasma that is bad is the s-video that my 510 was hooked up to. Is this possible? Any suggestions?

Does your 510 still work?
Is either the 510 or plasma plugged into a surge protector?
It also sounds like a power surge to me.

Be thankful your plasma still works

Is your dish properly grounded. This is one of the reasons I fueded with my installer and dish to get my system properly done. Tech refused to ground, dish went to bat for me and got the company to do it right.
Static discharge is one of dish;s main concern and with a proper ground that will not happen. In Mn it is not acceptable to run a seperate ground rod, you need to go direct to the house ground which should be on the street side of the water meter.
