The last couple of days my 625 would lock up once a day and need to reset itself. Of concern but I figured I'd just keep an eye on it. Earlier today it locked up again, but this time, needed user intervention. So I try the usual reset by the front power button and unplug/replug the unit fixes, but the unit still wasn't working right (worst of which was a total inoperative DVR function and the dreaded "311/REF 0521 hard drive problem" message. I call Dish and the operator there has me go back through the same steps to see what came up, but I got the same result (no DVR, same nag when the unit is reset), so she puts in an appointment to have a tech take a look (this coming Wednesday).

Figuring I have nothing to lose at this point, I try the hard drive reinitialize trick found here: http://www.satelliteguys.us/dish-network-technical-discussions/96954-how-re-initialize-hard-drive-dvr.html?highlight=311+hard+drive and low and behold, after e a couple of minutes, the unit seems comes back to life (DVR function and all). One of the saved programs has a "DVR event experienced data corruption and has been recovered" message but everything else still seems to be intact.

Now my question, should I keep the appointment with the tech now that the unit seems to be working (albeit I don't know for how long), or cancel it? What's the odds that the problem will come back again?

Looks as though the problems are trickling back in and I'd spoke too soon. I'd been watching something recorded and not only has the program been stopping (freezing) on occasion but the unit itself is starting to become unresponsive again (ignoring remote commands). And speak of the devil--just now frozen on a live program again.

Oh well, good for the short time the fix lasted...
