I was very impressed with D*'s VOD this past weekend at a buddy's. 4 or 5 kids channels as to save space on the DVR, lots of the Discovery, HGTV, etc series to easily get caught up.
E* where are you?

Likewise, Comcast's OnDemand service is our favorite feature of theirs. It's lightyears beyond anything E* offers as well...lots of content, lots of HD--much of it 'Free'.

So while I would gladly switch back to E* should their Easter Arc initiative provide a workaround for my new home's line-of-sight issues (which forced me to defect to cable back in June)--I will miss a robust VOD system with lots of premium free content as can be found w/ E*'s competitors. They are way behind in that regards, and for families on a budget, it makes one ponder the ever-present 'value proposition' of the service.

Yea, and each VOD channel had its own background and listing layout; very well designed.
When you add the fact D* support programming the DVR over the internet and you can play videos off your PC on your TV through their receiver, I don't know if the 622 and 722 are as unbeatable as some claim.
On his box I did miss the fact I couldn't cycle through the guide views by hitting guide a few more times (could be a setting; don't know). The box was not slow either as some claim (he did say it was slower before his last update).
It looks like D* is serious about pulling the Last feather out of E*'s cap.
I am still very comfortable with my 622 and need more time with D* before I can make the jump. E* will still need SPIKE-HD to keep me though.

Dont know if I would say its the greatest thing, but its still in the early stages, and yes like other posts for a specific kids show that they may want to watch it does work out well!

For me it will hit great stage once (and If) they are able to put WWE 24/7! on

E* just updated new software on the HDDVRs to allow "free online VOD" service to begin. I think this is the next thing after the 8/1 HD expansion. They know D* is killing them on both fronts.

I have D* VOD, while the kids stuff is great, they still lack free HD VOD shows. Most HD VODs are paid VOD, and they don't update often.

Cable certainly has them by the horn on the free VOD thing, but I doubt cable is much better on the free HD VOD, isn't it? Have not been with cable for a while.

Comcast has several dozen free HD movies and lots of HD television shows (like Mad Men season one, which we've been watching). Less HD content than SD in the free arena, of course, but still a significant amount--esp if you have any premium channels, you end up getting access to monthly libraries of films per each premium free w/ sub (except HBO, which for some reason offers no HD VOD). It's pretty sweet. Would love to see E* match these offerings...

Comcast free HD-VOD is nice and the quality is quite good. Its about the only thing I like about them.
