Dual-Tuner DVR Installation Question

Okay, this is for you experts out there, as I've called Dish 800# and, of course, gotten different answers from everyone. I've also left several messages with my local Dish retailer, and he will not call me back.

So, here goes: My house is wired a little weird (in my opinion). I have an individual coax running from the outside of my house to each room inside the house. In other words, I have about 8 coax cables hanging in a bunch in the back of the house. Now, to hook up a Dual-Tuner for 2 TVs, it is my understanding that the cable must loop back from the receiver to go to the 2nd TV. Does this mean that I will have to come inside the house once with the encoded signal, then back outside with the decoded signal to hook up with the coax to go to my 2nd TV and make yet another trip inside the house? Someone please help.

And to clarify, the Dual-Tuner DVRs do not have a 2nd receiver access fee, just the DVR fee, right?

Thanks.

Ok

With the use of a DPP Twin, or a DPP44 switch if you are in an area that uses a Superdish (this DPP44 will cost $200.00 extra though), You can hook up a Dual Tuner with just 1 cable. The installer would use a Diplexor inside by the receiver and outside where all the cables are, to hook up your second TV.

The dual tuners do not have a 2nd receiver access fee as long as a phone line is connected. No phone line you get hit with the fee.

Even if he's in a Superdish area, the installer should be able to install the DPP44 switch and get the workorder modified to reflect the substitution of a DP34 at NO charge to the customer. It's a common practice. I do it several times per week with Superdish installs or installs that have more than 2 tuners AND a dual-tuner is one of them.

Thanks for the replies guys. I was hoping to be able to do the install myself and save some $$, but I have no idea what a DPP44 switch is or a DP34. Is this something I'm not going to be able to do on my own?

You are going to need a total of two coax lines from the dish (or switch if you're using one) to both tuner inputs of your satellite receiver. If you already have a line from dish to receiver then you'll just need to add another (also see comments of single dish feed).

Then you need to run another coax from TV2 output of the receiver to the second TV. If this means running it back outside in order to patch into the appropriate cable then I guess so. It would be the preferred choice to run it directly from receiver to TV2.

Single dish feed: The others that posted were suggesting this method. If your Dish has dishpro plus series LNB or if you have a DPP44 switch then you can use your existing coax that runs from dish to receiver. Then using a DP separator you can split the single coax into two in order to feed both tuner inputs. I am not suggesting that you buy dishpro plus LNBs or DPP44 switch or DP separator if you don't want to. Coax is allot cheaper. Bare in mind you still have to run a coax from your receiver to the other TV and you may choose the outside route if you feel that's best for you.

Hope that clears things up.

You should not be charged for the install, if you are charged by the installer then kick him out and call dish, the only time there are any charges is if you have to have additional ger such as a second multi switch for more than 4 tv's or a 4th orbital slot and coax buried past the first fifty feet free mark.

Well actually I'm ugrading to a dual tuner pvr and dish tells me there is a $100 install fee. I already have two RG-6 cables coming into my house from the Switch, so if I understand correctly they are going to charge me $100 to place my new receiver in my cabinet. I don't think so. I bought my receiver off of ebay and am going to install it myself. Dish just lost a butt load of money from me because of the stupid install fee.
