LOS ANGELES, June 15 (Reuters) - Fox Sports Direct, a division of News Corp. Ltd. (Australia:NCP.AX - News), has sued EchoStar Satellite, saying it undercounted Fox subscribers and shortchanged the company by $25 million in subscriber-based license fees.

The lawsuit was filed on Monday in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles after Fox said it underwent "15 months of stonewalling by EchoStar" in response to Fox's request for an accurate count of its subscribers, according to court documents.

Colorado-based EchoStar Communications Corp. (NasdaqNM: DISH - News) is the parent company of EchoStar Satellite and DISH Network, the No. 2 U.S. satellite TV provider.

News Corp., which has extensive satellite assets in Europe and Asia, recently acquired control of Directv Group Inc. (NYSE: DTV - News), which owns DirecTV, the leading U.S. satellite TV service.

An EchoStar spokesman did not have any immediate comment on the lawsuit. A Fox spokesman could not be reached for comment.
