picture quality depending on receiver type?

Does the receiver have anything to do with picture quality?

If so which are the best?

different mpeg decoders will naturally be slightly different.

using different cables will also effect quality, from best to worst

dvi/hdmi
component
svideo
composite
RF

also keep in mind your tv is the ultimite decider, if youve got a quality 50" plasma and a noname 27" tube, doesnt matter the decoder nor the cable, the 27" is allways going to look worse.
