Wireless on VIP211k?

I have a VIP 211k receiver on my boat, which works very well. I could have a little more functionality if it was connected to the internet and I have wifi internet on board so it's possible, I thought. I did online research and learned that my 211k receiver could accommodate a wireless adapter in the USB port in the back. I found the proper adapter on ebay, Netgear WDNA 3100 V2, bought it and even though I inserted it and the adapter's blue light came on, there was no indication on screen that the receiver was receiving internet, nothing asking me to select a Wi-Fi network, etc. Now, I've read older posts here that indicate that 211k never could get wifi. I would love a definitive answer.
