I finally fired up the Netflix account (actually, they had purged it, so I guess I am starting over again from scratch!) and watched “3 Body Problem”. Now, since I had watched this over on Amazon Prime Video (and read the subtitles) I was rather surprised at the pace of the Netflix version, especially when they did the whole extreme nanotechnology thing in episode 3/4 and Prime’s version it was episode 29 out of 30.
Other than the first episode showing the Cultural Revolution and the purging of the intellectuals, I thought the Netflix version wasn’t as good as the one on Prime. Part of that was due to the depths that the Prime version could get into with more episodes to tell the stories, but it felt like a more “believable” story as well. Netflix has the VR headset that looks cool, but it’s not something that could be created on Earth with current technology. Prime’s version of the game requires a suit, gloves, VR goggles, headset, etc., to pull off the game.
Anyway, both versions were worthwhile. I really want to read the books now!
