NCAA Football 2008-09 Season

I have a new choice for the "Worst Uniform " poll.

Take a look at the ugly uni's that Central Florida are wearing tonight (espn2) vs South Florida only thing worse would be if the teams swapped helmets !!! Ugh.

Incase your missing it .....
Florida is struggling with Miami, leading , but not by much 9-3 in the middle of the 3rd quarter. (ESPN)

Remember last weekend with Bowling Green and Pitt ?

Minnesota 21 BG 17 3 minutes left in the 3rd Q.

Texas Tech 7 Nevada 6 late in the 1st half

Florida just got a gift .....
On a 3rd and 9 the officials blew the call on a catch at the 9, otherwise they would have been looking at a bout a 40 yard field goal.

The receiver had posession of the ball and his elbow touched down inbounds , but he never hung on to the ball once he hit the ground.
Officials looked the play over and determined that he came down with an elbow in bounds and failed to look to see if he hung on to the ball.

I am surprised that the Miami coach didn't have the officials review it to see if the ball was actuallty possesed.

Jimbo, your thoughts on the Buckeyes' sluggish game?

Well, you put it just about right .... Sluggish.

There are plenty of close games tonight that were expected to be blow outs.... Florida is finally pulling away from Miami.

Ohio State's D* still cannot stop the spread offense, I find that amazing, they play against it in most of their close games.

I thought they played better in the 4th quarter, they eventually wore Ohio down and pulled away late.

I doubt that well see Pryor next week unless it's a blow out one way or the other or the Bucks offense is doing absoltely nothing.

I thought the O line played pathetic in the first half, D* kept them in the game, they only gave up 7 points, but it was hair raising to see the spread offense working against us again.

This was definatly the typical "Trap" game, right before a big game....

Texas Tech struggling with Nevada 14-9 at the half, I guess thier high powered offense has not woke up today either yet.

Wish I could be watching this game.

I'm surprised that that have only allowed 9 points so far. Nevada's offense must suck.

I think the call was wrong, but the officials did check for possession. The first words out of his mouth after the review was "the receiver had possession..." then he said the elbow was in. They were right about the elbow, wrong (IMHO) about possession.

I agree with you, but the officials don't ...

Let's take a look at next week's super weekend of college games.

We all know about Buckeyes/Trojans, but you also have these matchups:

Friday night- we start with Kansas vs. South Florida.

Then come some great matchups:

Oregon/Purdue- A battle of offensive machines.

Michigan/Notre Dame- Two historic rivals who have some retooling to do- the winner can get some needed momentum.

Wisconsin/Fresno State- A chic pick to be a BCS sleeper.

Florida/Tennessee- The Vols will attempt to get revenge for the drubbing from last year. Can the sea of orange prove to be Superman's kryptonite?

Oklahoma/Washington- After the Huskies got hosed, I can't wait to see how they'll respond against an offensive juggernaut.

BYU/UCLA- Fresh off their escape from Washington, how will the Cougs fare against a revitalized UCLA team?

Georgia/South Carolina- The Gamecocks looked inept against Vandy, and the Dawgs want revenge for last year.

Looks like a bunch of blowout games next week if you ask me.

Wisconsin/Fresno St. and Oregon/Purdue the ones with potential.

BTW....UAB plays at Tennessee next week. Gators visit on the 20th.

Update....Hawaii is on a 22-0 run, now leading 29-17...change QB's at half, again.

1) Michigan-ND is quickly becoming like Army-Navy, a lot of tradition, but no talent on either side. Michigan has looked AWFUL in their first 2 games, and ND is probably no better than they were last year.

2) That was criminal what happened to Washington today. Oklahoma will have no mercy on them. This game will be ugly.

3) Georgia should beat South Carolina 70-0. It probably won't be that bad, I can hope though, but South Carolina is a JOKE of a program and Georgia will manhandle them. The fact that Georgia somehow managed to lose to the chickens last year will probably just piss them off.

Final Thoughts for today.

1. Did the refs in the BYU/UW game screw up with the celebration penalty, Hell Yeah. Rule books are not made of stone, they are guidelines. The context in which events occur and how a referee views them is not always the same, meaning all calls are judgment calls. The flip of the ball by Jake Locker didn't delay the game, didn't "embarass" or "excite" BYU and didn't cause an all out "mob scene" by the Washington players and added not subtracted from the overall drama of the game by both teams.
There was no real reason in it's context for the refs to make that call.

2. But with that said, UW did not lose the game because of that call. They lost the game because they couldn't execute on the PAT. Washington's kicker hit the ball too low and BYU blew past Washington's front line. That PAT would have been blocked at 1 yard line.

3. Let's not overthink things just 2 weeks in, the only team that has really "wowed" people is USC's win over Virginia and ECU has shown it can beat teams from the ACC and Big East which both look to be weak. The next two weeks though look like the first shake out period for who is legit and who is not.

4. Rich Rodriquez appears to be bent on changing the whole culture at Michigan, not just the offense.

5. One nice trend so far is BCS conference schools playing at non-BCS schools stadiums.
La Tech host Miss. State, Nevada hosted Texas Tech. Next week Wisconsin plays at Fresno St., UCLA plays at BYU and Stanford plays at TCU. Keep it up.
