This team just seems like it's done, unless something changes and quickly, it's not looking good.

Yea theTigers just look like they don'tevenwant to be out there, I meancome on alreadywe've seen this before in 06. Only it was getting swept by the Royals, the wild card was still an option. Boy they look lifeless..Bottom line too many damn .240 hitters in this lineup, and like I said earlier this year too many soft ass players on this team!!!
You have to give the Twins credit, they have always been a never say die team!
They haven't had, what IMO is, one of the five best hitters in the game the last month. But yet here they are battling right down to the last day!
The majority of teams in the league would have folded up their tents if they lost a talent like Morneau........but not the Twins.
It's hard not to root for a team like that. And that's no offense to the Tigers (and their loyal fans on this forum), who I've always liked.
It's the Tigers division to lose and has been for a few days now. They're handing the division to the Twins on a silver platter.
The Twins are doing what needs to be done to stay in the position to win it, but if the Tigers had actually won a few of these games, they wouldn't have a chance here. The numbers just weren't in their favors and odds are they wouldn't have a chance.

Major League Baseball typically prefers to have tiebreakers on the first day after the regular season ends, but the National Football League has already said that it will not relocate the Vikings-Packers contest scheduled for Monday at the Metrodome.
Tuesday's tiebreaker would likely add to more postseason drama, since the AL Division Series could begin on Wednesday, thus the Central winner might have no off-day. The Yankees are guaranteed to finish with the best record in the AL, so they will pick which day the ALDS starts -- Wednesday or Thursday. According to various reports, the Yankees would prefer to begin on Wednesday.

I will root for the Twins
They are very resilient.
Personally, I think Mauer is much better than Moreno, all the way around.

Bill, when I said that, I wasn't dissing the Twins.
I have not said anything to disparage them- I have been crediting them (when they gave up the 4-0 lead, I still felt they would win).
To me, this is reminiscient of another all-time great stretch-run- the Rockies of two years ago, who similarly came out of nowhere.

It's actually expected ...... they have been in 1st place thru a good part of the season, amazingly while not being interested thru parts of the season.
This it the most INCONSISTENT 1st place team I have ever seen.
This team needs to do a lot of remodeling.
They still need a REAL closer.
They need a BAT, several that is that are professional hitters, too many .240-.260 and below hitters.
That said, Magglio who was barely alive hitting wise at the AS break, has hit around .350 in the second half.
I would rather have Magglio who has the potential to hit over .300 vs a Clete Thomas who is hitting once again in the mid .240's and below, Thomas is a very good fielder with a cannon for an arm, but Magglio has a good arm as well. Thomas would be better in the field, and hit the occasional HR, but I would still take Magglio .... I think, provided he comes back next year.
Cabrera ended up hitting around .330 as expected.
The rest of the hitters were missing.
Brandon Inge looked great in the first half, but has suffered in the hitting and fielding dept with bad knees ..... hopefully that will improve over the off season and he can come back and have a healthy season next year.
You won't find a better defensive third basemen when he's healthy.
Palonco came on at the end of the season, but far too late to make a difference.

-tomorrow is suppose to be the last game at the dome...so the place will be nuts already. Throw in the fact the division is on the line and good lord. They raised the white banner in right field to fit another 12000 people in there (in the outfield bleachers that normally is blocked off) so they'll be 55000+ there
-They've been doing the "countdown to outdoor baseball" on the left field. The number stands at 1. When the game becomes official they take down the number. So it will show 0. What happens if they're tied after tomorrow? DO they put "1" back up?

IF, the Tigers rotation was set, they would/could do very well, but it won't be if they do make it.
As it stands the only way the Tiger's win it in regular season is if the Twins were to lose on Sunday (I don't see that happening) and the Tiger's win.
If they go to a game on Tuesday for the division, they would probably pitch Porcello which would be good, but that would mean they would open the playoffs against ny with their number 3 Jackson and then 4-5 pitchers ..... The yankees would miss JV alltogether more than likely or maybe he would pitch once.
fwiw, the White Sox have always had JV's number, he's normally pitched poorly against them so far in his career.

the way the ALDS is set up this year, IF the Tigers win the Central (EITHER tomorrow or Tuesday in Minneapolis), Verlander would still be line to pitch games 2 and a potential game 5.....BOTH on a full four day's rest.
Verlander is pitching tomorrow (Sunday).
Game 2 of the ALDS would be Friday........that's a full four day's rest
Game 5 of the ALDS would be a week from Wednesday..............that's another full four day's rest.
You still have to get to the playoffs, of course, but the rotation isn't as screwed up as it looks because of all the off days.
