Ok, It's about that time again for the new baseball season to come, we have a few weeks left in Spring Training .... so ...

PLAY BALL !!!

As far as the Detroit Tigers go this spring, well they are moving along with the departure of Prince Fielder and Doug Fister (best of luck Doug ).

They picked up a STUD SS towards the end of last year, IGGY from the Red Sox, however, he's come up lame so far with what appears to be serious shin splints, thats probably more than just shin splints, as he's not progressed like most expected, that means so far they either will be going with someone from the Farm system to start the season at SS, they have Danny Worth on the farm, steady, not spectacular, actually hitting his spring, or they have Hernan Perez, who is actually a 2b men but has played SS this spring because of IGGY, defensively he's been very good, they also have a guy by the name of Suarez that is also sharing time at SS this spring, he also seems to be pretty good in the field....

NONE of them will hit much, according to thier history.

IF the Tigers see IGGY being down for the long term, they will probably pursue Steven Drew ... another Red Sox SS ...however this one would cost them a 1st round draft pick and would fill in till IGGY got back, IF Iggy gets back.

Welcome Joe Nathan, it's nice to see you in the Olde English D !

Holy Crap! I'm watching the Tigers play the Nationals this afternoon and just realized the Tigers traded-away Doug Fister. Great trade - for the Nats! This could come back to bite the Tigers in the arse should they play against the Nats in the World Series. Anyway, the only reason I can see Dombrowski making this trade is because he could not afford (salary cap) to resign Fister. Hopefully we'll just have to play smarter, tougher, baseball.

The Tigers rotation of Verlander/Scherzer/Sanchez/Smyly/Porcello is still very good, but I agree that the Fister move was a head scratcher. IMO, Fister has been one of the most underrated starters in baseball the last few years.

Knowing it's still the Pre season, but Verlander dominated today, going 5 strong, giving up only 1 hit in the 5th.

Tigers get a run late and beat Washington 2-1

I agree Bill,
That said, at the time, there was a lo9t of talk about if they were gonna be able to pay both Scherzer and Cabrera in the next year and moving Fister saved some money, though he was not making all that much.
It also cleared the way for Smiley to move back into the rotation.

Iggy is scheduled to see Dr's (more Specialist's) on Tuesday.
I just posted this in the MLB thread because I hadn't seen the discussion here yet.

I'm listening to the Tigers/Blue Jays game on the Detroit radio channel. Dan Dickerson and Jim Price just said Iggy just got back from the doctor and told them he has a stress fracture in both shins. They said they team hasn't officially confirmed it yet but that was straight from his mouth. Sounds like he won't be back any time soon.

I don't know much about the Tigers acquisitions, perhaps someone can enlighten me. Also, what up-and-comers are going to make the team this year? What about the Twins, Indians, Sox and Royals? Any hope of taking things to the next level this season?

Jose said the same EXACT thing yesterday ...

I want to hear what the Dr's have to say.
