Guide question

When I had Directv (when they had tivo boxes) they had a 14 day programming guide, and I do miss it. I was wondering if it is possible to get more than a 7 day EPG for any of the Dish Network Boxes? Or is anything in the works to extend the guide from 7 days to 14?

DISH has a 9-day guide on the DVRs. It seems to only show about 7 days on the guide sometimes but if you do a search for a particular show it will span all 9 days.

Dish has 9 day guide on most receivers there are exceptions, but all the dvr's should have 9 day epg.

Interesting. I wish Dish would go out to 14 days. I can't tell you how many times I've gone searching for something in the guide that's advertised on air... Only to find it's not there; just beyond the 9-day limit. :(

Yea it would be cool, but if it means slower loading times for guide updates not sure I would want it.Now if they could incorporate 14 day guide without making load times slower that would be sweet.

There shouldn't be any slowdowns in guide loadings. Directv updates quickly and there is no lag in in using the guide.

As soon as they increased it, someone will complain the show they were looking for was 15 days out... They have to pick a limit. Some won't like it, others will...

The DVR's I've tried from (Cablevision, Time Warner, Directv, Comcast) use a 14 day guide even stand alone companies like Tivo, Moxi, and Windows Media Center use a 14 day guide as well. I would assume if most companies use a 14 day guide that would be the standard. I don't think people would complain. If it is a hardware limitation I can understand why they limit it to the 7 to 9 days, but Dish Network is using better hardware than most cable companies..

As stated from a previous post that when you are looking to record something that is 2 weeks away you can not do and and most likely will forget to record it once the guide is updated. I personally don't use the Dish Pass, most of the time it doesn't work for me.
From what I am reading there is no way to get the guide to have more than 7 to 9 days. If someone from Dish could answer the 2nd half of the question if there is anything in the works for extending the guide from 7 to 9 days to 14 days, or if there is a place I could request a future feature on Dish Networks site. Thanks

Are you sure? Guide loading speed is one of the major complaints about DIRECTV's DVRs. It can take upwards of 24 hours to fully populate the guide and for whatever reason, they still have that mysterious 50 Series Link limit with one of the the slowest responding guide grids extant.

I've found that even with a 7 day guide, the information can change quite a bit before a program schedule actually airs.

Are you saying a ViP211 only gets a 2 day EPG but if you turn it into a DVR by adding an EHD it then goes out the 9 days?

navychop,

Adding an EHD changes the 211 into a DVR allowing you to record like a DVR but does not give it all the features of the DVR receivers. I will check to make sure.

The 211k with your external hard drive DOES have the 8-9 day guide downloaded to your external hard drive. The key is with a dvr ,with an internal hard drive, or a 211k with an external hard drive, is that both have a hard drive to store the guide data on. I have a 722k and a 211k with external hard drive and I can confirm that the 211k does have 8 -9 days worth of guide data. Now if you disconnect the external hard drive it goes back to 2 days again.

Wondering how if there is no hard drive? I don't remember any Dish receiver that saved an extended guide to memory....

As I said, my 211 had the extended epg as long as I have had it. I got it at the same time I got my original 722.. There was no difference when I added the ehd.

Wrong! My 211 went out 8 days long before I added the ehd.

I think you are mistaken..Try removing the ehd and see how many days you get without it..
