I have iPhone 5s and my wife has iPhone 5. When We send a video to each other via MMS it shrinks the video. Is this a common thing to shrink bandwidth or is there a setting to shut it off?

Interesting question.
The setting for "MMS MAX MSG SIZE" is: 1048576.
So, one megabyte?
.
Try a very short video, then a long one ( 1 sec, 60 sec, maybe)?

Here is an example. (Screen shot of the video) Please note as above. This was recorded on iPhone 5 and sent to me which is iPhone 5s.

I don't understand why it's not full screen.

You would have iOS 7-something on your 5S iphone.
What version does your wife have on her 5?
Perhaps there is a bug in one or the other?

It's not an iOS 7 thing. Three months ago I sent my son a video via iMessage and it squared it up. I had shot it landscape and when he showed it to me, I saw it was cropped.

Another thing I noticed is the video doesn't look really clear. Doesn't seem to be in HD either. I don't know if this makes a difference but she has iMessage turned on. So I don't. So not sure if that would make it compress the video so it's under a certain bandwidth.

Don't know why you wouldn't turn on iMessage.
surprised you can send video at all without it.
But you have the tools at your disposal to run several tests with it on/off, and see.
.
As to fuzzy picture, try short vids & long ones.
There is probably a file size limit, as I posted above.
