"For DirecTV to take us off their lineup would be deeply irresponsible to its customers who not only count on the Weather Channel on a day-to-day basis, but depend on us before, during and after severe weather events," David Kenny, the chief executive of Weather Channel parent Weather Co. said in a statement.

The Weather Channel said that starting Saturday it would ask its DirecTV viewers to call their congressmen and senators and "ask them to help keep this critical public safety resource in the DirecTV lineup." The network added that "given the increasing frequency and severity of weather-related emergencies across the country, access to timely and accurate weather information is imperative for public safety and, therefore, an issue meriting congressional attention."


My god they make it sound like people dont have the internet or other options for local weather issues.

Weather Nation is taking TWC's place correct?
I also find it amusing how Comcast is asking D* customers to contact "Congressmen and Senators"....First off, there is no difference as the House and Senate are all members of Congress..
Second, what is the Beltway going to do about it? Answer....Not a darned thing. It's outside their purview.
TWC sucks. I wish Dish would dump it as well. Weather Nation is superior. They do Weather. Period.

You mean Directv is not reaching an agreement with Comcast/Universal. Gee, I am shocked. It used to be the Weather Channel but now it is reality shows and you never know when it is actual weather information. I am a Dish customer and could care less if Dish dumped it like it did for one day before TWC reached an agreement. We shall see what midnight Monday brings.

Looks like TWC is "pot committed" on those dopey winter storm names.
That is so hokey. The On camera talent uses them at least 852 times per hour. No doubt a directive from management.
And if TWC management thinks the Nat'l Weather Service is going to take up the practice, they are thinking wishfully.

They wont. The head guy is a weatherman and has been for decades (ironically here on local Minneapolis TV before starting Weathernation)

I remember a few years back Dish added a weather channel (don't remember the name) as they were in talks with TWC. Can't remember if TWC was ever pulled but Dish removed the other weather channel when the dispute ended.

Wow. Didn't even know WeatherNation existed until the wife and I heard about it through this thread.

Our reaction? WeatherNation -- replete with reasonably dead-pan but intelligent meteorologist -- is what TWC was circa 10 - 15 years ago.

When immediately compared to what's running on TWC, it's no wonder there's no real issue here:

TWC is no longer focused on weather. And that's too bad for them.

DirecTV needs to hold the line against fee raises per TWC. No business justification for it on DirecTV's part.

Was watching the weather channel and there plug for - DirecTV dont loose this life saving service, dont loose your weather channel.
What a joke.
Many times there have been tornados in the area and there showing a show about how weather changed history or about some history channel type of show.
I say the weather channel must do these options now

Since it is now worth only HALF the price it was worth 10-15 years ago when they really did the weather full time . . . .
They now need a TWO for one. Same price but they must offer Two channels, one with weather shows and detailed coverage and one with local and regional weather by spot beam for real weather like weather nation.
If they only are going to offer ONE channel then it should be at half the price.

PROPOSED NEW REQUIREMENT- if there EVER is a warning of any kind in the USA, then the weather channel must stop the history channel type of show and switch to LIVE coverage of the event.
With the life saving statements they are throwing against Directv I would think this should be made a FCC requirement or something. Maybe the FCC should get involved?

Dish used WeatherNation as a threat to TWC and as soon as TWC and Dish came to agreement, they dropped them.

Dish had "The Weather Cast" when they took down The Weather Channel during their contract dispute. Perhaps Directv is taking a page from Dish's book on this one? I wonder if Weather Cast Nation has learned their lesson from Dish taking them down as soon as they made a deal with TWC and will make Directv have a long-term contract with repercussions if they do not follow through.

I don't see any storms coming, so I see they're persuading Directv and us.

Yeah, suspicious huh? I think it's just a bait and switch tactic. "Oh look, we are showing weather now." *sign agreement* BAM! Back to showing the reality shows. Directv should drop it, and if in a few months time they have actually been showing the weather forecasts, they can talk to pick it back up.

Knowing Directv's tracking deal records I wouldn't be surprise that they come to an agreement on a last minute deal, I personally don't want it, but I'm not the majority of subs, then its back to reality tv with few weather like always. There should be a petition to get rid of it. #NoWeatherChannelSucks#
