PlayStation Vue Expands Local Broadcast Stations With 200 New Additions Across the U.S.

Following DirecTV Now's addition of numerous local stations for its customers, Sony this week announced the addition of around 200 new local network affiliates for PlayStation Vue users in cities across the United States. These include affiliate partners with ABC, FOX, and NBC in cities like Buffalo, Honolulu, Memphis, Austin, and many more.

Alot of new additions, including the remaining three for the DMA it puts me in.

but....
Yesterday PlayStation Vue added 200 live locals. The bad news is you can’t DVR any of them according to the PlayStation Vue help page you can’t record them. This is not a new issue as you already couldn’t DVR HBO, Showtime, and Cinemax. You also couldn’t fast forward FOX, FX, and FXX recordings.

A statement on PlayStation Vue’s website simply says “Due to streaming rights, however, select channels and programs cannot be recorded to DVR.”

There is a list of which channels you cannot record on at the link-

Yeah, I noticed that after I posted. A positive that they added, but a big negative on that front.

So you can't record any of the new local channels, not just the Fox affiliates? (you haven't been able to record/fast-forward on any Fox channels on Vue for several months now)

Any of the new ones, something to do with streaming rights and such, which is odd, considering it is a streaming service.

Weird. No such restrictions on YouTube TV for the recently re-added Tribune-owned channels. In fact, their return coincided with dropping any restrictions on accessing recordings on Fox stations (no more forced VoD on Fox, FX, FXX, FX Movies, etc.)

I believe this is something coming to all providers DVRs, the broadcasters know they can't keep increasing the fees at such a high percentage anymore. so at the next contract talks they will say to providers we will not ask for a big increase if all your customers with DVRs can no longer skip commercials, then they will hit advertisers with bigger fees since no one can skip them anymore.

That wouldn't surprise me if that turns out to be the case, but it's interesting that Vue went in one direction with Fox and these other new locals, but YTTV just went the opposite direction.

How much is one paying the other, maybe google is paying more in fees then Sony.

Thanks to Hdhomerun we don't have to worry about that. You can even delete them completely

So they added Fox and ABC for my locals. Still no NBC or CBS. How does that work if you can't record? You just get the VOD versions of the shows you want to watch on those channels?

Generally, yes. You just use the vod versions.

That's too bad. I like the channel line up of PS Vue better but Hulu live has ABC, FOX, and NBC channels available here and can record from them also.

So is the recording issue just on Fox? Is this recent? I was recording The Orville on Fox but that was awhile back. It was the true DVR versions and the VOD versions (for episodes after 28 days) available to watch. I know my wife records Grey's Anatomy on ABC.

Popping in to say I'm still really happy. Been a Vue subscriber for a little over a year now.

Currently on the Core package ($50) because it's NCAA football season. After the bowl games, I'll ratchet back down to Access ($45). Averages to $47.50 per month. I did get hit with the $5 jump a few (3?) months back but I'm still paying half of what I paid with Dish with no contract. We get all 4 main locals here in Houston, plus My20.

The Roku Ultras in each room have changed how we watch TV and the kiddos have access to more cartoons (PBS Kids, Disney Now Pluto, Netflix). I also watch a lot of podcast and documentaries on YouTube. I could have "cast" before from phone to a smart TV but I like the Roku ecosystem with a remote more. Overall very happy with the combined Vue, Roku, Netflix, & multiple apps set up.

Also, love I can cancel Vue tomorrow if something goes south or if money was ever tight.

My only complaint is that college football recordings all shows up as "NCAA football." They need to put "Texas A&M vs Mississippi State Football" as the title for both the guide and DVR. It's easier for me just to Watch ESPN now if I want to view a past game.
