DTV NFL Sunday Ticket

If you are an HD subscriber, definately get yourself the new 5 LNB Slimline dish and an HR20 or H20 receiver. Now there is no definitive word that all the HD NFL ST games are going to be in MPEG4 on 99 or 103 sats, but there will be channels, sat alignments, transponders and bandwidth changes all over the place in August and September. Until we know further, I would get the dish and receiver as a precaution. If it turns out you do need those, there is going to be a huge rush in September and you problably wont get an immediate appointment.

Agreed. This will be the last year with HD games in MPEG2 anyway, in 2008 they will all be MPEG4. It's iffy what will happen this year. If they stick with all MPEG2 they will be shutting down more then just TNTHD on Sunday's.

You should be able to get an H20 for free easy with install and the new dish and whatnot. If you want the dvr, the HR20, then you could get that for anywhere from free to $199. Depends on your history and how well you negotiate.

Either way, if you are interested in the new HD coming this fall you'll need the 5 LNB dish and MPEG4 receiver anyway. Might as well beat the rush and be prepared just in case.

Scott is absolutely right. You can get the dish no matter what, the H20 they give away like candy and most can get HR20's for free or around 100-200 bucks. But you can get free programming to offset that. I personally would get the HR20 since its the best of the fleet and nothing is better then a DVR. Its pretty stable now and is an awesome addition to any entertainment system. It just adds 5 bucks more a month in DVR fees.

I found the phone line connection to be a yes or no. The new receivers don't require a phone line like the H20 or HR20. However I have experienced Sport Packages not working on a receiver not connected to a phone line. So the only real way of know is when ST is on in your house. I wish it was a better answer then that but reports have gone both ways.

my 2 upstairs tvs use DIRECTV HD and HD DVR Receiver. So those will work w/o phoneline?

My 10-250 has a phone line hooked up but it's not made a successful call in 2 or 3 months. DirecTV "wisely" disconnected the local number. I don't have LD service on my land line so it won't make a LD call (which I would refuse to do anyway).

I think as long as you have at least one phone line on your account hooked up, they don't care.
I have my main hooked up to a phone line, but the others have no access to a phone line and they do work.

If you're concerned or are having a problem with sports programming just drag a long phone cord to the receiver in question every couple months. After about a month the receivers will try to "phone home" several times a day until they get thru. So after a month just hooking it up for a day or even just a couple hours will let it phone home and you'll be all set. If you have VOIP like Vonage where you can see all outgoing calls online in real time then you can easily check to see if it made it's call or not.

No landline

I would be interested in NFL ST despite what I believe is quite high cost to pay but I don't have any landline hooked up to the receiver.

I only have a cell phone.

What are the chances of me getting Sunday ticket?

Why do they need the landline?

I would call them and explain that you only use a cell phone at your residence, chances are they will give it to you...

Landline is no longer needed for newer branded D* recievers, it use to be that the landline was the way it recieved the updates, but now that is done thru the data stream.

HR20 here? Should be allright? I thought all updates were donv via the satellite feeds?

I have never had a phone line hooked up to mine and I have ST.

Phone line is only needed for PPVs and possibly sports subscriptions (which is rarely enforced). I'd say you have a 1 in 100 chance of having a problem with no phone line with Sunday Ticket. Basically just don't even mention it. If when you activate a new receiver and they ask if it's connected to the phone line just say yes and go on your way. I think you'll be just fine. But you should know there is always a chance.

How many games in HD?

Is there anyway of knowing how many of the NFL games will be in HD come September?

Before I purchase the bundle for some $300 odd bucks  I wouldn't mind getting some idea on how many games will be shows on Directv in HD.

Can someone speculate or have a good idea on how many?

Thanks

Every game in HD that is broadcast in HD. So that is up to 5 from CBS (was 3 last year) and 6-7 I believe from Fox. I cant remember exactly but its somewhere around 1 or 2 a week of non-HD games which are usually the pretty bad ones. CBS really turned it around this year. ST in HD is going to be even better then before.

Hey your quick! ;) I thought I posted quick. :)

I guess I will call my banker and order the NFLST/Superfan before the first weekend in September.

Should I budge now and save the $20 or wait it out? My thinking is it can't go up that much. Worst case scenario is I have to pay the extra $20 and best case is I save more if they offer something else before Sept.

:yes

directv is saying 150 games in hd this season! i believe i read that between cbs and fox, a total of 15 games would be in sd. not bad but hopefully, they all will be in 2008!

If you are an existing customer you are not going to get a better deal then the $20 savings so you may as well save the $20. If you are a fan of an out of town team there is nothing better. If you are just a big football fan the same holds true.

DirecTV is untruthful to their customers

How often do receivers update?
