You might want to change the title of this thread. Quick couple words about what the press release is about.

This news is ok, but like Alvarez said I want a new HD Tivo with Mpeg-4 capabilities.

Its at least good news that Tivo and Directv are working together and the existing Tivos out there are not door stops. I think its a sign of good things to come. Excellent news.

Somebody call Direct and tell them to hurry with a tivo unit with mpeg 4 .I am getting ready to switch to Dish

It probably wouldn't take much to adapt the tivo hd design to work with directv, it already has mpeg4 decoding support and they have the old directivos to build from.

Uh...Dish Network ain't gonna give you a TiVo. They'll give you a DVR, but if you're leaving over DIRECTV not giving you a MPEG 4-capable TiVo, just know that Dish Network ain't givin' you one either.

I see that upgrades are being made to existing S2 DIRECTV with TiVo receivers, but there's no mention made of new units so I don't see this announcement as earth shaking since when their agreement was renewed last year there was mention made of continuing to maintain existing equipment and I have to believe that upgrades when deemed appropriate would be part of that.

As someone who uses and likes the HR20, all I know is that when I use the HR10 I miss the HR20 interface more than when it's vice versa and when the MPEG 4 HD channels come online it will only increase that fact.

I hope they change to Tivo's again. There's someone on another board I would love to see have to eat the stuff he spews about the HR20 will never be given up on by Directv.

It took a while, but I actually prefer my HR20 and R15 to my (now deactivated) DirecTivo. I realize I am probably in the minority on this. In any case, this is good news.

Dish does not have tivo but they are darn close . The vip622 is as close to tivo you can get.It has all of the features my hr10-250 has and even more and it is much more reliable than the hr20.I have used a Dish dvr and it preformed awesomely if there is such a word.
