I ordered a WD10EVCS which should arrive tomorrow so hopefully in a few days I'll have an update as well.

    HR2x / HR34 External Hard Drive FYI/Support (eSATA)

I'm a little late in responding, but at this point I would recommend avoiding that model of Seagate drive at all cost for that configuration. There is a thread on DBSTALK.com (here) specifically about that drive. I purchased one with the MX-1 enclosure and it does not work correctly. There are...

HR21-100 Unexpected "Update" and lost settings/recordings

After hours of searching I finally found a thread on another site and it seems this issue could be related to the specific model of drive. Thanks for the info raoul5788!

HR21-100 Unexpected "Update" and lost settings/recordings

Update: Ok I finally got the right screen and verified that the system is running software version 0x255. My next question is what temperature range should the receiver be operating at? Currently it's running around 113 degrees.

HR21-100 Unexpected "Update" and lost settings/recordings

Here's the scoop. Yesterday my wife called me and informed me that any channel she selected was grey. The guide would come up, etc, but no go on viewing. I told her to power it off and back on, which she did, and the channels appeared. Then last night when we got home, I turned things on to...

Point of entry surge protection technical question

This may open a can of worms but I'm in need of some advice. I'm a systems administrator (i.e. computer geek) and have helped a large number of people that have experienced power surges wiping out their computers via phone lines. There is ZERO question in my mind about placing surge protection...

    Heads Up Dedicated D*Subscribers :)

D* called me last night and offered me a deal. For a 2 year commitment I could get either a free HD Receiver + $5 off/month or a Free SD DVR + $5 off/month. (I don't think that I was under a commitment currently.) I'm curious to know if anyone else getting this call? Also, for those who...

Alvarion in talks with DirecTV on using WiMax-CEO

Actually...that is partially correct. The problem is the distance the signal has to travel (physics). From Earth to sat and back to Earth. I think you knew what you meant...but when you typed the thought, it came out sounding like the speed of light was slow. ;)

Could the "letters" = more HD bandwidth?

Ah...there I go showing my ignorance again! :D I was really hoping that might be an upside to this. :)

Could the "letters" = more HD bandwidth?

If you've know of site or thread that explains this, please point me in the right direction. I obviously don't know the technical stuff behind the CONUS beams, but I thought that there were multiple beams from multiple sats. Like one beam for the east coast and one for the west coast...

Could the "letters" = more HD bandwidth?

With the recent reception of the "letters" by some subscribers, is it possible that D* could free up bandwidth for lil HD or more national HD content on their existing fleet? While I know that many subscribers are miffed (understandable) could this actually be a good thing? With the delays...

    HD Upgrade

I, like you, am an IT Admin and I agree that the average computer isn't processing all that much. I guess I should have worded my post a little differently. The message that I was attempting to get across was that the processor in the STB wouldn't be required to process as much data as a PC...

    HD Upgrade

I really don't know that much about the hardware in the receivers. There are a couple of things that I want to point out though. According to the original post... This could indicate that the newer models have faster processors and/or more EPROM memory. Also, please keep in mind that a D*...
