Seems we are getting reports of outages this morning.

In Cincy I have complete signal loss at times and then at other times having very pixilated video.

Where are you and what are you seeing?

Same here outside Chicago. At first I thought it was solar outage since not any clouds around. What times a year are solar outages near Chicago on the eastern arc, anyone know?

I'm guessing it was the Gilbert uplink center. It rained so bad last night, the freeway has cars completely submerged due to flooding. Can't imagine that much is good for satellites

Haha. I love Arizona not being used to rain. Schools are even closed in the valley, which means I get 2 3day weekends in a row. And a much needed extra day for online homework and tests and studying. Losing tv=sucks, extra day to get my work done=thank god

Wow!!! Well, that 'splains it Josephine! What timing. I JUST yesterday had my 622 replaced and my system converted to EA. Worked great last evening on ALL channels, something I've never really experienced since being introduced to 129 and its LoS issues. (Only 20 deg. elevation in these parts and too many trees! ) So at 5AM today I once again awoke to "Complete signal loss..." Damn! Welcome to Monday! I eventually realized my locals were working then finally it all came back...but not before I wasted 30 minutes or so trying to figure out what happened! Glad to learn I wasn't alone...and more importantly that it's not my system with yet another impairment...!

Better hope the earth doesnt get hit by a strong m-class or even a weak x-class solar flare because it will fry satellites in orbit.

You said it. That has been my fear for quite some time. Ironically, it would also fry the commercial sats used to send the programming to all the MVPD's so EVERY pay TV subscriber from cable to IPTV to FiOS and DBS would lose the programming anyway. I know that some programming is sent via fiber optic from the programmers to the MVPD's, but I don't know if that is exclusively for some channels and I don't know what percentage of programming is sent via fiber optic to MVPD's

Even OTA channels would loose the national content because it's sent to them via C-Band. Local affiliates would have to run re-runs of stuff from DVHS tapes when not doing live news. Most FM Radio channels would be deal air too as most of them get their content from AMC8. I think the current system is set up to rely way too heavily on satellites.

If all satellites got wiped out we'd be back to short wave for non local content for anything that does not have a fiber connection especially radio. I'm sure top 5 markets have fiber connections to the networks but the smaller ones are probably all still using satellites.
