    After blackout...

Thanks for your comments... but I am dropping D* tonight.

    After blackout...

...warranty, so I expect that I will get a similiar (if not identical) box. But turns out I don't get what I expected. Fkostyn, my second call to D* was to customer retention... they want to to commit another year before they would send me a box as good as GAEBOA. I said no. Probably I...

New DIRECTV H20 MPEG-2/4 on sale

Is that a Samsung-made receiver? I was in the local Wal-Mart yesterday and I see them using the exact same receiver in their D* HD showcase. The only different is that the top left D* logo is replaced by Samsung.

    After blackout...

After I followed charper1's suggestion... turns out my receiver is dead. Call D* and they sent me a replacement -- a lousy D10-100!! I lost Dolby Surround Sound, RF remote, VCR connection, optical audio output........... and the picture quality is worse than my GAEBOA. I called D*, and they...

    After blackout...

Reset the receiver... still the same thing. Also I found that all my local channels (72.5) are all missing -- not just "no signal".

    After blackout...

    Strom hit my town last night and we got a blackout. When the power comes back, my GAEBOA box no longer works... Sat B & C works fine, but I got these strength readings from Sat A... 0 0 91 0 87 85 0 0 0 93 93 0 0 86 0 0 0 0 88 60 92 0 91 87 87 88 85 0 87 92 90 91 And "searching for...

My GAEBOA does the same thing.

Trouble with Signal for SBTN 95sat

can you post a picture of the "big oval dish"?

    ESPN U....D* getting it?

I saw the D* logo on the same ad on MediaCom cable... Looks like it's part of the ad, not a D* addon.

    TC cost more than AT120?

    With locals: (AT120 w/o local - 37.99) + (local - 5.99) = 43.98 (TC - 41.99) = 41.99 However, if I can get locals using an antenna, or D* does not provide locals to my area: (TC - 41.99) - (local - 3.00) = 38.99 :no  :( :shocked (AT120 w/o local - 37.99) = 37.99

D* moving Soapnet to Total Choice in March

Why don't you give us a list of what channels AT120 gives to subs that TC does not have? Also the "paid annually" discount? If a person is bounded by the one-year contract and he choose to pay annually, AT120 is cheaper than TC. Less channels on AT120? It's just what they pay for.

D* moving Soapnet to Total Choice in March

Well D* needs this channel move to justified the rate increase for TC without adding new stuff (and bandwidth) -- after all, TC has the highest rate increase, percentage-wise.

    Hughes GAEB0A reloading story/question

But the D* return instruction says you don't have to send back the old remote... you can use your old remote on your new receiver.

    Hughes GAEB0A reloading story/question

Many people I know get a SD HBH too as a replacement. SD HBH is a "Director's Pack", not a "Executive Director's Pack". It might be newer, but just not as good as the GAEBOA.

Call me the king of credit. D* Retention ... How much is too much.

Just math. I don't believe so. Let's do some nonsense math (I know I am doing trash talk by commenting D* based on E*). From a quote during the Viacom/E* dispute, a 40% rate increase to E* cost only 6 cents more, and that covers 8 of the TC 85 non-shopping video channels, or 0.75 cents...

    No price protection?

Is it really true that there will be no price protection for those who are still on their 1-year contract?

Call me the king of credit. D* Retention ... How much is too much.

No offense, but THIS is exactly why we are getting rate increase -- Free Stuff to a few. Don't tell me ever again that D* invest in new sat, this and that. No! Real reason? Free Stuff to new subscribers, free stuff to people with good relations with customer retention, and under-priced (if...

Directv National Downgrade Day Feb. 28, 2005

How? I don't see it! At most you can keep your price until your 1-year contract expires. That is, you call D* on 2/28 and somehow to make them require you to commit a year contract (I don't know how without purchasing anything, all I can think of is maybe a receiver replacement, or purchase a...

    HUGHES GAEB0 and GAEB0A update!

A person on the Tier-2 line told me that GAEB0/GAEB0A are not the only Hughes receivers in trouble. They received reports that some HAH-SA/HBH-SA/SD-HBH also got the bad update, and upon request, they will send out new reciever to owners of bad HAH-SA/HBH-SA/SD-HBH.
  20. M

    What's to come...

    100 more shopping channels.

    HUGHES GAEB0 and GAEB0A update!

So what will be the replacement? GAEBOA has RF remote, SRS surround sound, IR control to VCR, S-video, 2 RCA-output, and an optical output. So far I've seen nothing as good as, if not better than, this one on the non-HD level.... Anything not as good as the GAEBOA is just a rip off.

Hughes GAEB0A & Sony rcvrs power cycling & rebooting every few minutes

What version is the "bad" update? My GAEB0A does not show an update in the upgrade page of the manual and it's working very well.

    Rate Increase for DirecTV

...subscribe to a higher tier. - Invest in hardware to overcompress the picture quality. - Invest in public relations to make the world think that they are not as greedy as E* and cable companies. - Invest in developing receiver boxes that are no better than those manufactured by other companies.

    FOX Sports Net Chicago.

Can somebody give me some insight on why D* is dropping FSN Chicago? Is Fox dropping the channel, or just because the CSN Chicago contract is cheaper? I've been watching those 2 channels for a month now and all I can see is there are a whole lot more paid programming on CSN Chicago.
