Possible to use DirecTV triple LNB with FTA receiver?

I came across a DirecTV dish with a triple LNB. I took it apart, and the three feedhorns are labeled "101," "110," and "119." However, I read that there is a built-in switch. If this won't work with a regular FTA receiver, is it possible to rewire it to bypass the internal switch? I have it...

    Are DigiCipher II channels free?

I noticed that many channels on C band are DigiCipher II. I found a few receivers for sale that apparently support this. They're expensive. Are these channels free when using a DigiCipher II receiver? Or is there some type of access system built into the format (codes or keys or whatever)?

Question about feeds - some analog?

According to Lyngsat, almost all satellites use DVB for video. However, I've noticed that for some of the feeds, the video encryption method is listed as "NTSC" rather than "DVB." Also, there is no symbol rate listed. Does this mean they're analog?

    Me vs. Galaxy 11

I'm having trouble getting a good signal from Galaxy 11 (91°W). I'm using a Winegard 76cm dish, which seems to pull good signals from other Ku band satellites just fine. It's just this one that is giving me trouble, especially at the weaker end of the Ku band. In the receiver, I can actually see...

4:2:2 - This refers to chroma subsampling, right?

I noticed on AMC-1 there are some NBC channels listed in Lyngsat as 4:2:2. I tried to pick them up, but they're just garbled mess. I can still get the audio, but no luck on the video. I assume this is because my Pansat 3500SD is designed to decode 4:2:0 MPEG2 only. 4:2:2 is a common term in the...

Can we see anything past 177°W?

I was checking out dishpointer.com, and the last satellite listed is NSS 5 at 177°W. It lists the elevation at like 17°, which for me is very close to the horizon. Have you guys had any luck picking up anything beyond that? Lyngsat doesn't even list NSS 5 under "America," so it looks like a long...

Hi! New to FTA, looking for advice!

Hey guys! I'm totally new to FTA and am looking for a little guidance. I've been lurking on the forum for a while trying to gather as much education as possible, and finally bought some gear to play around with. I'm a very techy guy when it comes to video (I actually own my own post production...
