    Dish Comcast RSN Dispute

Bloody hell. I don't even have satellite service any more and I still have to suffer the :censored matches when trying to watch Blackhawks games on NHL GCL. I thought about it the other night: if I had to go back to traditional service, would I go back to Dish or DTV? It would probably have...

    OTA options in apt building

An update: like I said, I really don't want to do something outdoors. Another option with my apartment is that my north wall is not flat across the entire face of my apartment. I've got a chunk of it that sits further out due to a fireplace (in the living room) and a closet (in our 2nd...

    OTA options in apt building

I could probably mount an antenna, seeing as I've already got both Dish and DirecTV dishes up there. But if I have to go outdoors I'd prefer to try on my balcony first. While they'd rather dishes be on the roof rather than our balconies, a small antenna might be able to hide fairly easily; I've...

    OTA options in apt building

Sure. I had checked out AntennaWeb.org a little bit earlier, but hadn't stumbled across this one yet.

    OTA options in apt building

After several years of Dish and several more of DirecTV, I'm finally considering cutting the cable and going OTA for locals. The main problem: I'm in the 2nd floor of an apartment building, facing north, and where I'm located in Denver means all of the stations are practically due west of me...

AT&T To Buy DIRECTV for $67 Billion

Oh, it'll lower costs... for AT&T/DirecTV. It certainly won't for their customers.

AT&T To Buy DIRECTV for $67 Billion

As soon as the NHL playoffs are done, I would have been putting my account on suspension for the summer and saving myself a few hundred dollars, just like last summer. So, yeah, this will make it a helluva lot easier to just call and cancel instead. This isn't improvement. It's a merger for...

AT&T To Buy DIRECTV for $67 Billion

Well, the BreakingNews/BreakingMoney twitter account just tweeted a bit ago that AT&T will announce the acquisition of DirecTV tomorrow. But then, their source is BuzzFeed, of all places, so be sure to have your grains of salt handy. Mergers like this are bad for everybody. We don't need less...

    New 2014 DIRECTV Prices

I'll cancel my service before I drop to a package without Altitude. Not to mention, Root Sports RM is owned by D*, which means each month they're dropping by for an extra kick in the sack simply because they can.

    New 2014 DIRECTV Prices

No exception here. I'm now paying another $1.82 for a channel - Root Sports RM - that between the wife and I we watch a handful of hours a year at most and could most certainly live without. Just effing lovely.

Directv dispute with Viacom IS OVER!

I'd rather pay $75/m for the 20 channels I actually watch than $75 for hundreds that I don't. At this point, I'd be perfectly happy with some kind of sports-only pack. There are so many ways of getting TV shows that I don't need cable/satellite; I only need it anymore for live events.

Directv dispute with Viacom IS OVER!

Wouldn't it be nice of these guys were all honest for a change? But then, judging from Twitter this morning, DirecTV is losing the PR war to Viacom; many people are convinced that DirecTV was going to pull the plug on the channels (ignoring that they really have no incentive to do so). I'm sure...

Directv dispute with Viacom IS OVER!

This is now trending in the US on twitter (or at least, DirecTV itself is). Interesting how Viacom doesn't bother to list all 26 channels at risk on their crappy website, but only the top half a dozen. I mean, we wouldn't want anybody to actually know about the other 20 complete crap channels...

Sunbeam Television Shuts Out DIRECTV NFL Fans in Miami in Attempt to Extract 300 Percent Pay Increas

I'm curious to know what the current fee is that they want to raise it by 300%.

    Random audio problems

Murphy's Law indeed. Went to watch a recording of The Late Late Show from 2 nights ago, no audio. Turned TV only off, then back on, audio back on. Digging out the component cables now, and will have to toy with them as well as the other HDMI cable/port, which is in use with the PS3 and see if I...

    Random audio problems

Actually, yes, I do know how to hook up the DVR to the TV using component cables. And, no, I haven't done so yet because the problem hasn't appeared again since I started this thread. I think Murphy's Law is now in play.

    Random audio problems

Well, I'll keep toying with it, but my wife just went by channel 548 again, and the audio was out again. She flipped to another channel, and right back to 548, and the audio worked. Granted, she's not viewing a ton of channels, but I find it odd that the first time she's hit it again since last...

    Random audio problems

I've only had DirecTV for a few weeks with a single HR24-500 HD-DVR, and I was gone for one of those weeks, so I'm not sure if it was from the very start, but we didn't run across it before we left. But occasionally I'll switch to a channel and the audio doesn't come through. We first noticed...

RSN games STILL not in HD?

Jeffmo, they've already lost at least one customer. I ended up dropping my Dish service last week, just after I saw the hint on Twitter that permanent RSN's were a flip of the switch away. I had a feeling it was going to be too good to be true. And apparently Dish didn't disappoint in that regard.

    Sporting events JIP for HD?

Thanks for all the responses. And that's exactly what I suspected, DodgerKing. Altitude broadcasts all major pro sporting events in HD; it certainly isn't Altitude that was the problem, even if Nuggets and Avalanche would play at the same time. More insulting, however, that even with a 30...

    Sporting events JIP for HD?

I'm currently a Dish customer who's finally broken down to the point of considering a switch to DirecTV. The ball and chain is fed up with Dish's situation of constantly joining games in progress for HD on one of our local RSNs, Altitude. Considering that this was barely an issue last year, but...

    Permanent HD for RSNs?

I'm a Blackhawks fan myself. So, whatever. And I'm not interested in DirecTV; Dish has a lot of lawsuits against them, but at least they're not coming from the customers. In the end, if I drop Dish, I'm probably done with TV altogether.

Canceled Dish in November/Got a bill today

My question here: how the hell do they get off thinking they can charge tax on this? Either way, if this fee is not being disclosed, that's a problem.
  24. S

    Permanent HD for RSNs?

Is there any hope for Dish getting HD permanently for all RSNs? Or is it a lost cause? My wife is an avid Avalanche fan, and she's getting pissed with the fact that she's constantly having to watch the first half hour to hour of a game in SD, because it's JIP for the HD. Altitude doesn't seem...

OFFICIAL DISH / FOX ORDEAL DISCUSSION THREAD

I heard a similar ad on the radio last night claiming that Denver would also lose the local Fox affiliate in this dispute. And yet, Wikipedia says the Denver Fox affiliate is also owned by Oak Hill. I too feel that this is incredibly disingenuous on Fox's part, as there's no reason to believe...
