while were on the subject...

can anyone tell me why my 811 has the "Receiver info" screen every morning when I turn on my tv? The 811 is already on and I go to the HD comonent input and there it is--staring me in the face telling me for the 35th day in a row that I have version 2.84. if a new version showed up I could understand the screen showing up but WTF???

If it is spooling, then we've gone from Dish giving up on it and will never upgrade it again, to getting an upgrade in 9 days.

My money is that we will see at least another 2 or 3 software updates for the 811, past 2.88.

You should try an place your 811 in standby nightly to insure the Guide gets updated and you receive updates. As to always have the Info screen up. My guess either a neighbor is sitting on your remote address or you have some other IR device interfering. Try changing your remote addy and see if the issue goes away.

If only less then 100 receivers affect in whole world, how your personal knowledge applied here ? ;) Do we have here someone from the group ? It would be easy to check using System Info screen and that log.

not sure if it's related, but Sunday morning, I went to demo my 811 and samsung HLR5067 to a friend and the guide was totally broken. made for a very embarrassing demo. :(

Well based on your posts Mikey, If I recall you were agreeing that the 811 would not be updated again so September is well withing the never range. ;) June is too close for my comfort level. To make it interesting, how about end of July.

Dick.. the 921 and 942 are HD DVRs. Signatures are the things that are at the bottom of our posts. Mine now says something along Idiot, DBSTroll and suspected drug user. Oh.. also says something about Perception.

As to "Who's on the right side" Basically the claim was that we won't be getting any more updates for the 811. I figured it would be fun to make a gentlemans agreement and the loser of the wager would place the fact that they were wrong and the other person was right into the agreement. Kinda of a trading places type of bet. ;)

So you and Mikey In? End of July the date.. hmmmm.
Ron, you were right, I was wrong. :bow

An 811 firmware update is being distributed today (P2.89). My sig will be updated. :(

Well I am happy to hear 2.89 hit the streets. Now lets hope it goes wide.

Yeah.. I don't recall a two week time period? ;)
Yeah, I thought about just putting it up for 10 minutes, but I decided that would be weak. :)

Let's hope it's stable enought to go widespread. :D

Customer beta testing period. The last two never made it into general release. :D

Having a phased rollout with this number of receivers is actually a wise thing to do and is normal. rollout.... Listen for the yelling.... and if no yelling then go wider. This process minimizes exposure. The 811 has been doing this for that last couple of releases and I would not expect 289 to be any different.

I am not at all suprised that 289 is being rolled out in phases just as 284, 285, and 287 was. The rollout from my vantage point is totally expected.

Hopefully it can go widespread and DD folks that have did not get 285 or 287 will get the long awaited fix they have been looking for.

ALL Dish receivers receive updates. They have to. Things change on the head end, and they need the receivers to work with them. However, it doesn't mean they haven't abandoned the 811. Of course they have, just like they've abandonded the 921, 721, and others. They already have the replacement lined up.

Gary,

2.89 is not an update to fix issues on the head end. 2.89 has software fixes in it that are addressing customer issues. Yes the 811 is being replaced by the 411, yes the 921/942 will be replaced with MPEG4 versions, but Dish has actually had a good track record on continuing fix support for the receivers even after a replacement as be released.

Me and Mike made a bet. Mike thought there would never be another software release for the 811. I won.. Woo Hoo!!!

As to abandoning the 811, from what I know this is not the case. Yes I am sure they are getting down to sustaining, but they have by no means gotten to the point of just adding fixes dealing with head end issues.
