Accessing files on a Motorola DVR530 HD satellite receiver hard drive

I suspect you can't..... they are probably encrypted to prevent that very thing. Or at the very least the disk format may well be something your computer/OS cannot recognize.

The only way to offload all the programs in HD off that hard drive is to purchase a very expensive upgrade that adds a firewire port. I forget what company does this but IIRC the cost is about $500+ and it's not support by StarCHoice, so if your receiver fries, you're up the creek.

This may get you nowhere but...

I read over at digitalhome dot ca about how to replace the existing hard drive in the 530. ARR mentions that you need to format the new drive and it is based on VxWorks (post7). This is Unix based - could it be read if removed and plugged into a Unix/Linux box? It is a Seagate 160GB drive.

Hope this leads to a solution for you.
