What a night for baseball. We were reminded that baseball is for all ages. Cubs rookie Starlin Castro homers in his first MLB at bat. Then he later adds a bases loaded triple to set a new record of six RBI's in his major league debut. At about the same time Jamie Moyer , a man with four years experience in the majors when Starlin was born, was pitching a two hit shutout for the Phillies. At more than forty-seven years old he eclipsed the record for oldest player to pitch a shutout. I may be wrong but I believe Jamie faced only twenty-eight batters and made only 105 pitches. He retired the side on three pitches in the second inning despite giving up one of the two hits in that inning. You gotta love this game.

Isn't Moyer closing in on the record for most homers surrendered?
Yes, I think he is getting near to the recently passed Robin Roberts:angel:. Roberts had around 505. I think Moyer is in the 480's. I don't remember the actual numbers, but I do know that both pitchers pitched a lot of years and a lot of innings. I wonder how those facts would break down to HRs per inning pitched. Doubt if there is a stat for that. I wasn't trying to canonize Moyer, just enjoying a remarkable achievement. :)

I had to witness the kid from Chicago do it against my Reds. :(
