What makes you think I have 7,000 shows? Just because I am near the 100 limit doesn't mean the shows sit on there forever. Shows come and go a different times of the year, not all are running at the same time. I shouldn't have to delete the Series Recording just because it is not currently on the air, it will be back and I'll probably forget to re-setup the recording.
There shouldn't be a limit. The oldest DirecTivo's didn't have a limit and I'm sure that was very old hardware.
Kind of a moot point anyway, only DirecTV can change it so it's a worthless argument to keep having. Just because 50 or 100 is enough for you doesn't mean it's enough for everyone period.
Yes, sure, there's the limit. Yes, the old TiVos didn't have it. However, there is a
huge difference between then and now. The hard drive capacity was a lot smaller, a lot fewer channels were around, as well as a lot fewer shows that people recorded on a regular basis. With more than 250 channels to record from now, there's a lot more demand for recording, sure, however that also means that the hardware has to be able to complement the software. It was mentioned before; if there wasn't a limit, and you held 500 timers at once, the receiver wouldn't be able to process anything. Think an HR21 or HR22 with system slowness, magnified by 100. It would be
terrible. Just because you're an outlier and need more than 100 timers doesn't mean everyone does.
Simple way around it: Get another HDDVR and connect it to the same TV if need be and pay the extra $6.50/mo. You gain additional timers, HDD space, as well as tuners, all while sharing via MRV.
Win-Win. Stop complaining.
