Arrow

Question: Any chance we are going to get a Laurel and Felicity friendship on Arrow, now that Laurel knows the secret, instead of some ridiculous catty girl nonsense?
Ausiello: EP Marc Guggenheim says that with Laurel now in on everyone’s secret, the dynamic between her and Felicity will be “a lot of fun” — and decidedly not in a catty way. “These characters [including Sara] should all be more than just who they are to Oliver,” Guggenheim notes. “We’re always trying to flesh out Felicity’s character and Laurel’s character and Sara’s character beyond whether or not they’re going out with Oliver that week.”

‘Arrow’ Season 3 Spoilers: Felicity Gets A Backstory And Her Connection To Oracle
21216.jpg

The 'Arrow' season 3 premiere isn't for a few months but that doesn't mean the news and spoilers are lost. They are being discovered all the time. This week, one particular spoiler regards Starling City's premiere computer hacker, Felicity Smoak. We already know she and Oliver will be going out on a date this season -- it happens in the first episode -- but what about her backstory and what does it have to do with 'Oracle'?
Executive Producer Marc Guggenheim spoke to TV Line about the upcoming 'Arrow' season 3 and what it holds for Felicity:
"We have had a backstory for [Felicity] for over a year now that we keep saying, 'This is the episode where we're going to do it,' and we don't," exec producer Marc Guggenheim told TVLine. "But this is the year we're going to do it."This all stems from the casting of Charlotte Ross -- better known for her role in NYPD Blue -- as Felicity's mother. She will make an appearance on 'Arrow' season 3, whether in flashback or current continuity, and that's when we get to see at least some parts to Ms. Smoak's backstory.

So what does this have to do with Oracle?
Well, the title of the episode where Felicity's backstory will be revealed is titled 'Oracle.' This episode is the fifth of the new season and will air sometime in November. That name is familiar to comic book fans as it is the name given to another famous computer whiz, Barbara Gordon.
Barbara Gordon is the daughter of Commissioner Jim Gordon of Gotham City. In the comics, she took up the Batgirl mantle after being inspired by the Dark Knight when she returned to Gotham from her studies. She would be Batgirl till 1988 when DC Comics decided to retire the character. But it would be that same year when the controversial 'The Killing Joke' storyline by writer Alan Moore depicted Joker shooting a plain clothes Barbara Gordon through the stomach. Although she would survive the attack, it left her paralyzed from the waist down.

However, through the careful reintroduction of Barbara from the likes of John Ostrander and Kim Yale she would be brought back into the DC Universe - as a disabled person. Barbara would then start to make another name for herself as Oracle in the early 90s helping the Suicide Squad and other heroes. Using her amazing intellect and computer skills, Oracle would hack hostile systems and guide other heroes by providing the information they needed.

Oracle rose to prominence in the DC superhero community by forming her own team of female heroes called the Birds of Prey and remained one of Batman's most loyal partners and friends.

In the current DC Comics books, Barbara Gordon is Batgirl again after going through an experimental procedure that gave her back use of her legs. Currently there is no one taking up the Oracle mantle. So Felicity Smoak could be this universe's Oracle as she is a computer whiz with an above average intellect. It would be a way to bring Oracle into the picture while still having Barbara remain Batgirl. They could have Felicity 'become' Oracle in a similar fashion as Barbara had in the comics. We already have seen Felicity in bad shape in the trailer for 'Arrow' season 3.

Perhaps -- and I'm hoping it doesn't happen -- she becomes paralyzed in whatever incident takes place. It's a stretch but it's something to think about. The 'Arrow' universe also has introduced Huntress and Black Canary who are staples of Oracle's Birds of Prey and would be a chance to spin-off to another show or have sidequests away from the main story, very much like how the Suicide Squad had an episode dedicated to them. But fans will have to wait till Oct. 8 to see what happens to Felicity and the rest of the crew when 'Arrow' season 3 begins.

Arrow's 50th Episode Promises A Bit Of Magic

Arrow's 50th Episode Promises A Bit Of Magic image
Television shows like to celebrate certain milestones. It may be that network TV is a fragile medium, but every time a series hits 50, 100 and/or - if lucky - 200 episodes, shows like to do something special for the fans. Arrow is no different. The superhero serial is starting its third season this year, and that will include the airing of the 50th episode. We don't really know too much about what will happen plot-wise, but we do now have a title:

That Tweet, as you can probably tell, comes from Arrow writer Marc Guggenheim, who is co-writing the 50th episode of the show with Wendy Mericle (who has eight writing credits on the show so far). We know that the milestone will be the fourth episode of the season, and that it will be called "The Magician." But what does that mean? Could be a reference to Zatanna Zatara, a superhero who possesses real magic, and is also a stage magician?:
_1408316355.jpg

In the comics she is a member of the Justice League, and Arrow actually wouldn't be her first live action appearance. Zatanna was a recurring character in the final three seasons of Smallville, played by Serinda Swan. She is perhaps the perfect level of superhero to be introduced to Arrow and then simply exist in the universe - ready to come back in whenever needed.Given the fact that John Barrowman is included in the Tweet, the real answer to the puzzle may not be that interesting. It's very possible that this title is simply a reference to Malcolm Merlyn (get it? Merlin/Merlyn?). Or maybe it's pointing towards Ra's al Ghul. We need more information! After finishing its second season earlier this spring and concluding with Oliver Queen being victorious over Deathstroke and his army, Arrow will be coming back for Season 3 on Wednesday, October 8 at 9:00 p.m. ET on CW. No longer the only superhero show on the network, the series is being joined by the spin-off Flash this fall. It will be making it's world premiere one day earlier, set to start airing at 8:00 on Tuesdays beginning October 7th.

Arrow Casts Supernatural Alum as Cupid
Arrow will meet his (crazed) number one fan in Season 3.
EW.com broke the news that Gumenick - who played the younger version of Sam and Dean's mom, Mary, on The CW's Supernatural - will play the dangerously obsessed fan who has a lethal crush on Arrow.Arrow executive producer Andrew Kreisberg, who actually created the Cupid character when he was writing for Green Arrow, told EW "I always loved the idea of Green Arrow having a crazed fan."

Forget Liam Neeson! This Is Arrow's Ras Al Ghul
Matt_Nable_67113.jpg

As excited as Liam Neeson was about the idea, it appears that he will not be reprising his role as Ra's al Ghul on the upcoming third season of Arrow, but now we do know the name of the actor who will actually be taking on the part. It has been officially revealed today that Riddick's Matt Nable, the Rugby player-turned-actor seen above, has been selected to play one of DC Comics' most iconic villains.

While the identity of the performer playing Ra's al Ghul has been teased since San Diego Comic-Con in late July - where it was announced the character would be the big bad of Arrow Season 3 - this new announcement actually comes from show star Stephen Amell himself, who posted the following message on his Twitter page:

Please welcome Matt Nable to Arrow. You know who he's playing.

At this stage we can't say exactly what Nable's costuming as Ra's al Ghul will look like, but we do know two things for certain: he will wear a a sword in a scabbard on his hip:

And will wear some pretty intense finger jewelry:
_1406444738.jpg

Ra's al Ghul has been named dropped a few times already on Arrow, but only in the next season will we get to see him in the flesh. In terms of fixed continuity, we know that he will be portrayed as the head of the League of Assassins living in the fictional location of Nanda Parbat, and he has at least one daughter, Nyssa (Katrina Law). He both helped train both Malcolm Merlyn and Sara Lance to come trained killers as members of the League, but the former was eventually booted out and the latter left without permission. Oliver Queen has said on the show that he has been aware of both Ra's and the League of Shadows, but it's never exactly been explained how. Presumably that question will be answered in upcoming episodes.CW has Arrow set to premiere Season 3 on Wednesday, October 8.

Arrow Season 2.5: Details on the Suicide Squad Backup Revealed 2 http://comicbook.com/2014/09/09/arrow-season-2-5-details-on-the-suicide-squad-backup-revealed/
The Suicide Squad backup story that will play as a B-plot in Marc Guggenheim, Keto Shimizu and Joe Bennett's Arrow Season 2.5 will resolve itself in an oversized issue down the line, the writers told Nerdist.
The team, which is being considered for a spinoff of its own and which Shimizu assures fans will appear on Arrow's third season, will head to Black Adam's homeland for an adventure that the writer says would be nearly impossible to do on TV.
"Certainly we get to go bigger and bolder in this format, doing things that we can’t really accomplish with our production schedule and with our production budget – really spectacular action sequences, huge explosions," Shimizu explained. "In addition to that we can go places we can’t go in the show. We’re going to be doing a Suicide Squad [story] throughout this series that will be pages here and there and then wrapping up with a double digital issue/single print issue. That will take us to [the country of] Kahndaq, which is something we could never do on the show just because it’s impossible to shoot it. We’ll get to get into some geopolitics that we normally don’t really do on the show, a political fantasy of 'What if the Suicide Squad could go in and fix some of these awful things that are happening in the world?' [Laughs.]"The digital comic launched last week, alternating with the just-released The Flash Season Zero. Arrow returns to the air on October 8, the day after The Flash debuts on The CW.

Arrow First Look: Meet Ray Palmer (and the Team's New Dynamic Duo?) http://tvline.com/2014/09/12/arrow-season-3-ray-palmer-diggle-baby-photos/
New to the Season 3 photo gallery below, you’ve got the first pics of Ray Palmer (played by Superman Returns‘ Brandon Routh). On the CW hit, “Ray is a businessman instead of a professor, more of an entrepreneur,” showrunner Marc Guggenheim told me. And as for his Atom-ic alter ego, “Part of the fun is seeing how, or even if, a character reaches the end of that trajectory,” the EP teases, “because as we’ve proven, we like to play around with it a bit.”
