AT&T U-Verse is Soon to be No More!

I was cleaning out my files from way back when I was an AT&T U-Verse customer, and as I was seeing which links were still valid, I came across this article on a related site. It seems that AT&T is getting rid of U-Verse and that eventually even the name "DirecTV" is going to be replaced with something with the name AT&T involved in it's branding. Here is the link:

I don't think the Directv name is going away. There is too much value built up on that brand over the past 23 or so years.

Yep, I'm an example of that. I had Uverse up to this weekend at one of my locations & got Directv installed on Saturday. When I checked with AT&T last month when the Uverse TV & Internet contract was up they didn't even mention Uverse TV, they only offered me DTV promos. I was told by the retention rep, although I had no interest in any other service than DTV, that they will be phasing out the Uverse service eventually so they are trying to migrate their tv clients to DTV over time.

That article really doesn't have any information not already known about UVerse. Not just me, but I posted about this quite some time ago when ATT got out of the Uverse business in Connecticut. They made it clear Uverse wasn't long for the world at least not with them owning it. Where they can they will sell to someone else as they did with Frontier but the problem is the delivery system. Hardwire service including telephones are coming to an end, in some areas sooner rather than later.

I would think UVerse could be a good fallback with signal drops. But I guess they can use straight Internet for that. Either way, a bit of a delay, but better than missing the program. Switching back to sat signals might be a bit tricky, timing wise- jump to live or stay off timing and let the customer decide what to skip or when to go live.

That depends on what AT&T Marketing comes up with and how well they sell it to the powers that be.

Please remember this AT&T name was kept when it was purchased by one of the baby bells as a replacement for the baby bell name.

Yup and the actual name right now is at&t, Not AT&T... .

As for the news of this happening, it is very old news, was talked about here 6 months or so ago.

IF you want U Verse and are in the U Verse area, you can get it still.
They are pushing D* of course, its the new Big money purchase they made.

I believe the U verse Internet will be here for the long haul.

It appears that they are keeping what U-verse does, but.. they are changing the names of its services. Unedited from the Article itself:

"To make it simpler for our customers, AT&T U-verse High Speed Internet service and U-verse Voice services have new names: AT&T Internet and AT&T Phone," the notification states. "There is no change to your speed, voice plans, or price and you will see the new names on future bills, correspondence, and online."

Keep in mind that the programming costs are cheaper with Directv then Uverse.

I'll actually be glad when uverse Tv goes away. Lost too many potential sales to them over the years.

I have had Directv for over 18 years and hopefully no name change . I recently had Uverse tv and internet installed in my daughters apartment , she would like to have kept her Dtv only that the complex wanted 400.00 to allow them to put up a dish, out of range.....

Spoke to a friend that works for AT&T....The bottom line is this. If a customer orders satellite tyv service and for wahtever reason they cannot receive a satellite signal, the process then switches over to getting internet based tv ( U-Verse) installed.
AT&T is going to try to get that customer connected to one of their services.
The U-Verse moniker may be going away, but the tv over the internet is not.

AT&T is going to try to get that customer connected to one of their services.

I've been saying that type of thing all along.

Uverse hogs up Internet bandwidth, dtv does not.
Uverse can go down for a whole neighborhood with certain hardware failures, cars crashing into telephone poles.

I am told that uUverse, whatever it ends up being called will be for apartments and hotels, and NLOS, and that it will have the exact channel lineup as dtv, and serve as a backup during rain, people can just stream dtv over the iInternetuntil the rain stops

Technically, U Verse starts at 12mbps.
6mg is dsl still.

You can get 6 mg thru U Verse equipment now as they just throttle it down, but the dsl topped out at 6 mg and U Verse took it from there.
