Called Dish to Do HD Upgrade - Disappointed They CANNOT Guarantee a 722k

I currently have a DVR625 and a 311. After getting a new HD set about 2 weeks ago, I decided to call DISH and see what an upgrade involved. The female CSR was very nice, helpful and told me the installation would be $95 unless I added the DHPP plan which would bring the cost down to $15. One question I forgot to ask her -- I have a DISH 500. Will it need to be replaced for HD? If I continue the "leased" route using DISN n It Up, they cannot guarantee that I willl get a 722k to replace the 625. I was told it could be a 622. I was surprised to hear this since I do not see a 622 listed in the receiver section of DISH's website. The CSR stated that the receiver I get is contingent on "whatever the installer has on the truck". Has anyone here had a recent HD upgrade and got a 622 instead of a 722k? How likely is it that I would get a 622 versus a 722k? By the way, I told her I would think about this so I didn't place the order. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

They will change the dish (probably to a 1000.4 or a 1000.2). If the installer brings a 622 I'd tell him no. If he doesn't have a 722 or a 722k then just cancel the visit and call back. No way I would accept a 622 at this point.

5% chance. We are required to have at least one 722(k) every day and van stock is three. Right now I have one 622 and two 722k. I'll use the 622 on a new install and hopefully not get another one

You guys have verified my hunch - that I will need a new dish antenna. Otherwise, I was thinking if my current one will work, I'd just outright buy a 722 and "plug it in" myself. Oh, well...

I REALLY hate to tick off an installer if he brings me a 622 and I tell him "no thanks". Will the installer call me to set up an appointment or does DISH schedule the install? If the installer schedules it, I can ask him THEN if he's bringing a 722.

If you have an appointment window already my experience they won't call beforehand unless running early or late.

I agree with everyone else - don't take the 622. I refused one when I upgraded my 625, but the 625 was my second receiver, so no install work was involved. I got the same line they could not guarantee a 722, but I made it very clear to the CSR taking the order I would not accept a 622, so I never had any guilt about it. The next week I got a 722K.

BUT...

Ask the guy as soon as he rolls up if he has a 722(K). Don't let him muck around for an hour or more swapping out the dish and then turn down a 622.

And, take an 8-12 window for the appointment if possible. Sounds like the odds are better early in the day the installer will have a 722k...

I asked him if I would get a 622 or 722k (which I really wanted) and he laughed and said he couldn't remember the last time he saw a 622. All he had was 722's and I got the 722k. Watercutter, your upgrade costed $15. You must have the protection plan, right? Otherwise, I think it costs $95.

Did the installer use the existing mast (mounting arm), and existing location for the new dish antenna? Mine is currently located on the corner of a low overhang on the back of my house...I can easily reach it w/ a broom to knock off the snow, plus it's not mounted ON the roof (through the shingles), which is what I don't want.

I call to add a receiver to my account, I currently have a 622 and called and asked for a 722. They said the 622 would be free and 722 wouyld be $100.00. So I just went for the 622 for free. The installer arrived and all he had was 722's.

Wouldn't anyone receiving a 622 at this late date in fact get a refurb rather then a brand new one or are there still new ones floating around?

I was told a couple months back the same thing. That they couldn't guarantee a 722K. So I called my local satellite installation company. They install both Dish and Direct. He told me all he installs is 722K's. So I went through him instead of dealing with Dish directly. Everything was the same cost as it would have been with Dish. And the biggest advantage I found after all was said and done, was that he gave me a 1 hour window on when he would arrive and he actually showed up EARLY!! Every time I've dealt with Dish directly, they USUALLY show up late.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure he used the existing mast. He just switched the dish out.

Upgraded from a 722 to a 722k to get the extra recordable tuner while they switched me to the EA. I did this through an email to ceo@echostar on advice from the forum. If you pre-order the tuner had to pay for the tuner) when the CEO staff responds to your email,then you'll request the 722k when they set up the appointment to put the new dish in. the install cost me 15(i have the protection plan). went smooth with no hitches. Very satisfied with dish. nothing was mentioned about a 2yr commitment. not sure where to check online if i'm committed.

Thanks for all your replies...I really appreciate it. I have -- hopefully -- a last technical question about the 722 and this may also apply to the 622. I understand that TV2 is SD, right? Some documentation I've read indicates that the TV2 hookup is via composite cables. Images I've seen of the 722 also show what appears to be an RF out to TV2 - though this RF connection is not physically surrounded by the black line box which contains the composite connections that's labeled TV2 on the rear of the 722. Bottom line...I already have a DVR 625 with RG6 running from TV2 OUT to the distant TV set several rooms away. With a 722 (or 622) can I still connect the distant TV in the same fashion...with the RG6 cable?

Yes, all the same connections are there and work the same; with the added feature that you can modulate both TV1 and TV2 on the same cable to the other rooms.

Like Arjii, my installer said all they had was 722s. That was a couple of years ago.
