Can't access updates

My son surprised me with a new Toshiba notebook earlier this month. I'm still getting used to it. The OS is new, (to me!) Windows Vista home premium and I cannot get it to update. Is it me? I have no problem getting my XP desktop to update.What's different about Vista? Please help.

Turn off the Windows Firewall and then try it.

I'm pretty sure that Automatic Updates are enabled/on by default.

What does Control Panel, Security, Windows Update say ??

Check your time zone settings, Also make sure your time, date and so forth are correct.

Set your system clock and date to something really way off, the go and try to do a Windows Update. It will fail and it will tell you why.

Try Manual updates and see if that works.Be sure you have registered you copy of Vista with Microsoft.
