How is the new Ciel-2 going to effect the Eastern Arch subs? I do not think we will be using it. If they need it for more HD capacity what will Eastern Arc users do or do we already have enough capacity to add more HD?
Thanks!

Not at all. Ciel-2 is to be used at 129. EA uses 61.5, 72 & 77. Replacement sats will no doubt eventually go to those locations. But EA can support increases TODAY.

But EA can support increases TODAY.

Well, 61.5 can support some increase. I believe it still has a few free TPs, as well as several others that are taken up by international programming also available on 118.7.

Space on 72.7 and 77 don't help much (only for the HD headed for 110). If new HD was added to 129 and 72.7 or 77, subs like me with 119/110/61.5 setups would be screwed.

119/110/61.5 is not a standard install. It was just used in certain cases where the 129 slot did not have line-of-sight or for the earlier locals that were added to 61.5 prior to Eastern Arc.

HD subs are supposed to have 110/119/129 or 61.5/72.5/77 and I expect that whenever existing subs are allowed to have EA installs, then the 61.5<->129 mirroring will cease.

To answer the Original Poster, Ciel-2 helps Eastern Arc customers in two ways:

1 - New channels could not be added to Dish Network, until the space was available on both Eastern Arc and "Western Arc" at the same time.

2 - Ciel-2 has 145 spot beams, included a number in the Eastern USA, and it is possible to make more space on Eastern Arc by moving some EA markets to Ciel-2 spot beams (especially the oldest ones that predate EA, so the customers already have a 110/119 dish).

Tell that to the guys who upgraded me. I have fine LOS for 129, but they just added 61.5 instead. I'm glad, as my HD locals eventually turned up on 61.5.

I'm also pretty sure 119/110/61.5 installs were the standard in the 129 exclusion area in the northeast.

To save themselves, I think it makes the most sense to keep mirroring as long as there is still room on both 61.5 and 129.

Or all current 110/119/129 subs who's locals are on 61.5 I don't believe that current subs can get a 1000.4 yet. There are about a dozen in my immediate area that had 61.5 wing dishs installed.

Yep. Here near DC 110/119/61.5 is pretty common, as the locals are on 61.5.
