Comedy Central Going HD - 1/13/2009 11:25:00 AM - Broadcasting & Cable

Comedy Central Going HD
Network will have 200 hours of HD programming at launch.
By Alex Weprin -- Broadcasting & Cable, 1/13/2009 11:25:00 AM

Sometimes the humor is in the details. That may be what Comedy Central is hoping when it launches a high definition version of the network. Comedy Central HD will be going live on Cablevision, DirecTV and Cox later this month, with additional carriers expected to be added throughout the year.
To go along with the conversion, the network will be boosting its HD programming lineup. At launch the network will have 200 hours of native HD programming, including nearly 30 episodes of South Park and the first two seasons of The Sarah Silverman Program. A number of feature films, stand up specials and Comedy Central Presents will also be in HD.

Initially , Comedy will be upconverting mainstays The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report, with the expectation of the two programs going fully native HD in the future, most likely in 2010. The complicated process of revamping the control rooms to handle the HD feed while continuing to put out new programs means the transition will be made gradually.
In addition, the new seasons of Reno 911! and South Park and the new series Krod Mandoon and The Flaming Sword of Fire will be presented in HD.
"Comedy Central’s viewers are some of the earliest adopters of new technology and when they are not consuming content on the go, either online or on their phones, many of them are sitting in front of a high definition television, making programming decisions based on what's on in their high def tier," said Comedy Central president Michelle Ganeless, announcing the launch.

this is one I've been waiting for! next : Travel HD, Espn U HD ,more premiums in HD.

comedycentral.com is now reporting that season 13 of south park will be in hd starting march 11...........sweet

Is this service Free HD or HD Free HD? Being another Viacom channel, I figure it is just another HD Free High Definition Channel :)
Look at the press release. It mentions 200 hours of HD at launch and will be upconverting current shows while it works on converting them to "real" HD. Also, the new season of South Park will be in HD, which makes this worth it simply for that.

Great news, hope it does get added! As crazy as this sounds, I dont wantch to much comedy central but I think I would watch more with the HD programming!

Satracer stated on DBStalk that we will not be getting any new HD channels this week. He said that we will get 1 HD channel next week, though he didn't specify what channel it would be.

NICE!

Only 2 more channels left on my favs guide list in SD needed to be converted to HD, well 3 if you count 24/7 RSN's (STO-OH)

Chiller
MSNBC

Awesome news!!!!

after getting a few more channels in HD, none of you would be interested in an HD only package that would include all RSN's if needed?
